  • 2021 Chardonnay ‘Reserve Selection’, Raymond Vineyards White Wine

2021 Chardonnay ‘Reserve Selection’, Raymond Vineyards

    £3500

Steeped in rich family history, Raymond vineyards can trace it’s origins in winemaking back to the days of the ‘old’ Napa Valley.   Founded in 1970, Raymond vineyards produce high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay

This 2020 Chardonnay ‘Reserve Selection’ has fragrant aromas of tropical and stone fruits that lead to notes of honeysuckle, accentuated by a touch of toasted almonds. This is a beautifully balanced wine with bright acidity and a creamy texture with a hint of minerality on the finish.

The grapes come from the estate vineyards in Jameson Canyon and selected Napa Valley growers. The estate vineyards are planted on rolling hills at the southern end of Napa Valley. The growing conditions in the Jameson Canyon are very similar to Carneros, the neighbouring appellation just west of the Napa River. Winds flow through Jameson Canyon, bringing the cooling influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean and providing a long, cool growing season which enhances and concentrates the intensity of the varietal characteristics. A proportion of grapes are harvested from vineyards in Carneros and the Napa Valley which lend more texture and structure to the blend.

  • 2012 Maragle Chardonnay, Eden Road White Wine

    2012 Maragle Chardonnay, Eden Road

    £3650

The Eden Road Maragle Chardonnay is a stunning wine and it’s often compared to Grand Cru Chablis in terms of its style, texture and flavours.

The grapes used for this Maragle chardonnay come from a small vineyard in the Maragle Valley, south of the Tumbarumba village, at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level. It is a unique site that generally produces more powerfully structured chardonnay compared to other vineyards in the region.

The aroma presents a complex, yet pristine notes of grapefruit, citrus blossom and white peach, with a touch of struck match character. The gorgeous palate also reveals pear, green apple and pristine minerality, mouth-watering freshness that is the alpine snowy mountains. On the palate it is beautifully long, powerful, driven with elegance & restraint.
The winemaking is kept very simple in order to express the terroir of this special Maragle vineyard. The fruit is handpicked and whole bunch pressed directly to French oak without settling. The juice is then simply fermented and matured in French oak with some ‘battonage’ stirring for 12 months.

  • 2019 Linda Vista Chardonnay, Matthiasson White Wine

    2019 Linda Vista Chardonnay, Matthiasson

    £3750

Steve Matthiasson is a bit of a legend in Napa Valley and this wine is made from the Linda Vista Vineyard in the Oak Knoll region of Napa Valley.  Oak Knoll is regarded as one of the classic Chardonnay spots in Napa as the cool winds and clay soils preserve zesty acidity and freshness, while the Napa sun provides richness and ripeness.

Steve leased the vineyard in 2011 and set about making a classic Napa Chardonnay.  To get complexity, completeness and balance in his Chardonnay, Steve harvests grapes a number of different times during the ripening period to achieve a diversity of ripeness, the earlier harvests contribute acidity and minerality, and the later harvests contribute flesh and richness.

This 2019 Linda Vista Chardonnay has an exotic nose of Golden Delicious apples, yellow peaches, musk melon and honey that leads through to the palate. The medium acidity is balanced by pleasant fleshiness, finishing very clean with a hint of minerality. Refreshing and with moderate alcohol, this wine is all about pleasure, begging to be drunk up, with some oysters or a roast chicken and a big smile.

  • 2020 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune`Sous Eguisons`, Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard White Wine

2020 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune`Sous Eguisons`, Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard

    £3795

Caroline Lestimé, winemaker at Jean-Noël Gagnard, decided to plant Chardonnay vines on this plot of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, back in 2007.   The vineyard is in La Rochepot, on an embankment overlooking and bordering the western part of the Saint-Aubin appellation Le Ban. The name “Sous Éguisons” refers to the cliff above the vineyard. The cliff offers protection from the north winds, which is a significant advantage given how harsh the climate is and how bitter the spring frosts are at this altitude. The natural growth cycle of the vines is also slower and the grapes mature a full week later than at lower levels.

The wine itself is a revelation, pure, pristine and delicious.  The matchstick mineral nose shows pure lemony fruit with a hint of florality. The palate is linear and precise with taut lemony fruit and a fine tangy, stony mineral quality. There’s just the faintest hint of spicy, toasty oak, but the real theme here is pure, vital lemon fruit with great precision and lovely integrated acidity.

  • 2019 Chardonnay, Sanford White Wine

    2019 Chardonnay, Sanford

    £3900

A luxurious and elegant Chardonnay with enticing notes of grilled peach, lemon and toasted hazelnuts. The palate of bright fruit and honeycomb is beautifully framed by crisp acidity and has a rich texture that carries through to the long, clean finish.

The fruit comes exclusively from the two estate vineyards in the cool-climate area of Sta. Rita Hills AVA: the Sanford & Benedict Vineyard and the La Rinconada Vineyard. The unusual east-west orientation of the nearby Santa Ynez Mountains, allows cooling maritime breezes from the Pacific Ocean- just seven miles away- to flow over the vineyards, bringing with them morning fog. Afternoon breezes dry out any residual moisture and reduce disease pressure on the vines and clusters. This distinctive mesoclimate promotes a long growing season. The vineyard is split into 52 blocks, each with individual soil composition and microclimate. Broadly, the marine-based soils in the ‘Sanford & Benedict Vineyard’ are a mixture of clay, loam, fractured shale and chert (rocky soil) which force the vine’s roots to dig deep into the soil for nutrients and hydration. The result is naturally low yields of small-berried, concentrated fruit delivering excellent minerality and acidity. The ‘La Rinconada Vineyard’ is made up of sandy, gravelly soil, which imparts precise minerality.

  • 2015 Chardonnay, Stargazer White Wine

    2015 Chardonnay, Stargazer

    £3950

Sam Connew, previously Chief Winemaker at the famous Wirra Wirra vineyards, said she would never start her own wine label.
    Never.
She packed her bags and left the McLaren Vale to her home in the Hunter Valley. A couple of trips to Tassie later, and boom, Stargazer was born.
It is a labour of love for Sam, making small quantities of wine from small parcels of fruit, striving for individuality and quality.
Sams wines are beautiful, ethereal representations of the Apple Isle.

The 2015 Chardonnay was sourced from Tolpuddle vineyard – a famous Chardonnay vineyard in Tasmania. It’s a cracker, with icing sugar-dusted apples, subtle vanilla spice and great clarity and drive of grapefruit, hints of bruised apple and this vineyard’s signature steely slate character.

  • 2019 ‘White Cliffs’ Blanc de Blancs, Simpsons Wine Estate Champagne & Sparkling Wine, English & Welsh Sparkling Wine, Festive Fizz, Sparkling

2019 ‘White Cliffs’ Blanc de Blancs, Simpsons Wine Estate

    £3950

Classic, vibrant aromas of citrus and green apple are balanced with subtle brioche notes and distinctive English minerality and finesse.  White Cliffs 2017 is the first release of a Blanc de Blancs sparkling wine from Simpsons’ Wine Estate, created from 100% estate-grown Chardonnay

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

  • 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons, Domaine Sébastien DamptWhite Wine

2022 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons, Domaine Sébastien Dampt

    £3950

Sebastien Dampt is fast rising to the top echelons of chablis winemaking.  Year upon year he delivers remarkable wines that are an ode to the regional terroir, reflecting both their devotion to winemaking and the rich heritage of Chablis. The domain is undoubtedly a perfect embodiment of tradition meets modernity in wine-making.

This 2022 Chablis 1er Cru Les Vaillons possesses a brilliant golden tint, with an enticing aroma of citrus fruits and white flowers. This Chablis is well-balanced, offering a bright, zingy freshness complemented with rich, fruity flavours. The palate is defined by a minerally undertow, evoking chalk and flint notes. Ripe and structured, it culminates in a long, lingering finish. A reflection of its celebrated terroir, this wine is a testament to sophisticated winemaking.

In terms of vinification, Sébastien keeps it simple. His approach is traditional, as he learned from his father and grandfather. In Chablis this means fermentation and maturation in steel tanks. Sébastien does not use winemaking techniques such as battonage or wood aging; he is all about pure grape and terroir expression. The wine does undergo the usual malolactic fermentation in Chablis, which rounds out the acids just a little more.

  • 2019 Croft Chardonnay, Henschke Wine Republic Heros White Wine

    2019 Croft Chardonnay, Henschke

    £3995

Seductive aromas of pear skin, grapefruit, white stone-fruit, citrus blossom and white flowers are complemented by hints of apple, lemon curd, clove spice and toasted almonds. Intense and focussed, the palate shows layer upon layer of pear and white peach, tightly wound by a deliciously creamy texture, and perfectly balanced with nectarine acidity and subtle oak nuances, for a powerful yet elegantly restrained, lingering finish.

Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue purchased the Lenswood property in the Adelaide Hills in 1981. At 550 metres above sea level, the Lenswood vineyard offers not only magnificent views over the traditional vine country but also higher rainfall and humidity, cooler temperatures to retain high natural acidity, yet still enough sunshine to fully ripen the grapes. The chardonnay vineyard, which consists of seven clones, has taken its name from Frederick Croft, an orchardist who took up a neighbouring property in 1938.
