2023 Monastrell ‘La Purísima’, Bodegas la Purísima

    £1395

This wine is a deep, alluring purple in the glass, boasting aromas of blueberry, wild raspberry, and liquorice with hints of violet and allspice. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with an inviting richness. Notes of toasted cedar and nutmeg are neatly integrated with red berry fruit. Silky mouthfeel and soft, ripe tannins are balanced by the wine’s juicy acidity.

The grapes come from D.O. Yecla in eastern Spain on the Murcia Plateau, where the vines are planted at an altitude of 700 metres and benefit from excellent diurnal temperature differences. The hot summer days are tempered by cool nights, which produces balanced wines.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2023-cinsault-rose-leeuwenkuil-family-vineyards/">2023 Cinsault Rose, Leeuwenkuil Family Vineyards</a> Rose Wine

2023 Cinsault Rose, Leeuwenkuil Family Vineyards

    £1450

An engaging and elegant dry rosé showing lovely finesse. Enticing aromas of raspberry and pomegranate follow through to the palate layered with ripe watermelon and a tangy cranberry finish.

Leeuwenkuil is situated in the triangle between Malmesbury, Paarl and Durbanville. The Atlantic Ocean lies 20 miles to the west and this has a significant cooling and moderating effect on the Mediterranean climate. The rolling hills average around 140 metres above sea level. However, the superior influence on the wine is from the various soil formations, namely shale, schist, granite and iron stone. These ancient soils vary greatly in the percentage of clay, mineral content and organic matter. The grapes for this rosé are mostly grown in clay rich shale, resulting in a wine with substance and moderate acidity.

2023 Chenin Blanc Skin Contact “Off The Charts”, Bruce Jack Wines

    £1475

Mouthwatering notes of lush tropical fruits gracefully intermingle with floral hints and vibrant citrus undertones through to a crisp, refreshing finish.

The Chenin Blanc vineyards lie at the heart of Swartland at elevations ranging from 60 to 300 metres above sea level. Nestled in ancient sandstone and shale soils, the vineyards benefit from a unique combination of factors. The region experiences scorching, dry summers followed by cool, wet winters, creating an environment that maximises the development of flavours and aromas in the grapes. Chenin Blanc is a standout varietal here and thrives whether grown on trellises or as bush vines. The soils and dry land conditions are particularly suited for bush vine cultivation, resulting in small berries bursting with layered flavours, rich colour and soft tannin structures. 33% of the fruit for this wine comes from old, low-yielding bush vines which produce concentrated fruit. The vineyards are sustainably cultivated and the grapes are hand-harvested.

Delicious notes of nectarine and citrus layer with hints of vanilla, caramel and a delightful touch of toffee, intertwined with orange peel, almond and subtle hints of clove. Beautifully balanced, with flavours of lime and lemongrass leading to a bright and zesty finish.

Some of the oldest Clairette Blanche vineyards in South Africa are found in the Breedekloof and the grapes for this wine come from a 36-year-old Clairette Blanche vineyard. The region is enclosed by three mountain ranges between the cool Atlantic Ocean and the warm Klein Karoo. The climate provides an ideal balance for a long hang time and a slower ripening of the grapes. The warm, ample sunshine allows the full development of the grape’s sugars and aromatic flavour, while the cooling influence from the surrounding mountains help retain natural acidity in the grapes, ensuring a fresh and vibrant wine profile.

Breedekloof lies to the west of Worcester, with the Slanghoek Mountains marking its western border and the Badsberg Mountain dividing the Breedekloof area in two. The mountains have a moderating effect on the climate, with mountain shadows providing respite for the vines from the hot sun, by shortening the days and bringing cooler nights. This blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre is medium-bodied with a layered density of fruit. Liquorice root, fennel seed and ground spice precede blackberries and bramble leaf on the rich, inviting nose. Red and black berries unroll to a juicy pomegranate finish, dusted with a hint of cacao.

The grapes for this wine were carefully selected from pockets of the vineyard specifically for their fruit flavours and mouthfeel. The vineyard is planted at the foot of the Du Toitskloof Pass in granite-rich soils with clay and quartz. The clay element offers high water retention properties and releases much-needed water during the warm summer months. The lowest part of the estate is at 220 metres above sea level, climbing to 330m at the highest part. At this altitude, the vines are exposed to strong winds that naturally reduce yields and offer a much-needed cooling influence in Paarl’s warm, dry climate.
