  Bodegas Nivarius specialises in the production of white wines from cool-climate vineyards in Rioja.  This wine represents the perfect blend of the terroir and the cool-climate region, with its warm days and cool nights prolonging the ripening period and encouraging aromatic richness. The Viura grapes come from the sandy soils of the Najerilla, and the limestone soils of the Sonsierra, and are blended with Maturana Blanca from the Iregua Valley, grown in sandy soils. Maturana Blanca is an ancient native variety with small clusters and small, elliptical grapes which produces vibrant, tangy wines characterised by high, natural acidity.

  In the glass it has an aromatic and complex bouquet of baked apple, floral and balsamic notes, layered with nutty tones and a hint of minerality. The palate is fresh, rounded and balanced, with lovely texture and finishes with stone fruits and a touch of almond.

  Nivarius, meaning ‘snow-drift’, takes its name from the common sight of the snowy blanket which covers the vineyards in winter.

  A refreshing cuvée made from Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Roussanne is full of lime, citrus and white fruit aromas leading to a textured palate with beautiful balance and a crisp, mouthwatering finish.

  The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea, and surrounded by mountain ranges. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which offer balance to the hot, arid summers. The vineyard is certified organic.

The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees, which temper the hot, arid summers. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness.   The Grenache for Lunatico comes from a small north-facing vineyard over half a century old. The grapes are hand-picked then sorted, though not destemmed, and vinified very gently over a 25 day period using only natural yeasts. The 24 months spent in 600-litre barrels gives Lunatico an ageing perspective of 10-15 years.

  2019 Rocim Indigena Organic, Herdade do Rocim

  This deeply coloured and concentrated wine is made from 100% Alicante Bouschet, a once popular French red grape that has now found a home in the Alentejo region of Portugal.  It has a wonderful depth of dark berried fruit complemented by a characteristic eucalyptus note. Full bodied, with vibrant freshness that beautifully balances the intensity of fruit.

  The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30 mile long east-west facing escarpment which rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location it is one of the most temperate sub regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences of 15°C which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights.

  This 2013 is a very well-made Riesling with a succulent mouthfeel, lovely mineral tones and a touch of honey and aged Riesling characters.   The flavours go on forever and the finish is mouthwatering making a second sip happen very quickly!

  Mongrana is the quintessential expression of the colours, sights and sounds of the Maremma region: fruity and intense, fresh and embracing, the wine takes its name – and its character – from that of the noble family of knights depicted by the Italian Renaissance poet Ludovico Ariosto in his epic masterpiece Orlando Furioso.

  The charm of Mongrana does not take long to reveal. Well-defined aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry jump out of the glass, anticipating a complex bouquet of kirsch, ivy, and pine needles, enriched by a touch of liquorice.

  2020 Rocim ‘Amphora’ Red, Herdade do Rocim

  This Amphora wine has aromatic notes of black cherry, raspberry, plum and delicate vegetal notes that lead to a textured palate, balanced by freshness. It reveals a salty and textural minerality through to a fresh finish. Serve with game or mature cheese.

  Naturally vinified without any additions or must corrections. The fruit was carefully selected, vinifying only the highest quality berries. The grapes were fermented with natural indigenous yeasts in traditional clay amphora pots known as ‘Tahla’. The process took place without any intervention, including temperature control. Following fermentation the wine was aged for six months with skin contact which imparted complex aromatics to the wine. This may create a natural deposit in the bottle.

  Herdade do Rocim is associated with the Sustainable Program of the Alentejo Viticulture. This wine is made from organically grown grapes; 70% of the vineyard is certified and the remaining 30% is in conversion.
