A crisp, aromatic wine, showing great purity and a precise expression of the Verdejo variety. Fresh notes of pear, grass, fennel and white pepper lead to a dry and refreshing palate, with excellent balance and a citrus finish.
The grapes are grown in high-altitude vineyards in the northernmost part of Central Castile, where the continental climate enjoys sunny days and cool nights. This diurnal temperature difference encourages grapes with intense fruit and excellent varietal definition, which retaining remarkable freshness. The vineyards are sustainably managed and organically farmed as part of an integrated ecosystem. Low annual rainfall results in low disease pressure, enabling the vines to be grown without the aid of fungicides. Fertilisers have never been used, only organic manure is applied and weed control is managed by a low, superficial tilling. Rainwater is collected in a small reservoir and is used for drip irrigation in the case of extreme drought.

The vineyard for this wine’s fruit is located in Molina in the Curicó Valley at an altitude of 243 metres. Working with a model of micro viticulture, each plot, of no more than half a hectare, is identified according to its terroir and microclimate and planted accordingly. Grapes are subjected to specific pruning, irrigation, canopy management and harvesting, which results in grapes of optimum quality and flavour.

On the palate, it’s crisp, zesty, and layered: orchard fruit, lemon zest, and a touch of pineapple glide over that trademark savoury, salty nuance, before finishing long and mineral.

Verdeca is a relatively rare white-wine grape variety from southern Italy and is known for being excellent with seafood dishes. This 2022 Verdeca ‘Talo’ from San Marzano is quite delightful, fresh and unoaked. It has rich aromatics of white flowers, crisp green apple and a hint of honey. Full-flavoured, with a creamy texture and a thirst-quenching finish.
As featured in Victoria Moore’s Best Wines for under £10 in the Daily Telegraph: “A very succulent white made in Sicily from the grillo grape, this has a glimmer of crystallised fruits or fruit peel with a refreshing acidity”.
Grillo is the flagship of Sicily’s indigenous white varieties, with its aromatic and floral nose. Pleasantly fresh and harmonious, with ripe melon, green apple and mineral flavours, a well-structured palate, the Vitese Grillo has a long and elegant finish.

The grapes were carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery and the three varieties were fermented separately in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures of between 14 and 16°C. The wines were matured on their lees for two months, with periodic racking to add complexity. Carefully blended showcasing wonderful freshness, aromatics and pure fruit flavours.
