  The area of Lussac is an up and coming satellite appellation of the renowned Saint Emilion region on the the Right Bank of Bordeaux. There is no doubt that one of Lussac’s most prized properties is Château Lucas, owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone fame. From just 18 hectares of vines, three cuvée are produced. The top wine, aptly called Château Lucas, is produced from a 12-hectare vineyard, comprising equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. While so much of the Right Bank focuses on Merlot, the high percentage of Cabernet Franc brings a polished lift to the cuvée, vintage in and vintage out.

  In the glass it opens with aromatics of raspberry and blackcurrant interlaced with plum and vanilla notes.  The palate is round and balanced with flavours of earthy spices, tobacco and blackcurrants that lead into a sustained finish.

  An aromatic orange wine with delicate floral notes of rose, quince and apple. The palate is fresh, fruity and harmonious, finishing with a little grip, leaving an impression of pleasant tension.

  The grapes for the Amfòra cuvée come from vineyards between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountainous foothills. The Mediterranean climate, with its warm, dry summers and relatively mild winters, offers the vines excellent conditions in which to flourish. The high number of sunshine hours results in wines that are powerful, rich and aromatic, but also fresh due to the tempering effects of the Mediterranean Sea. The soils are made up mostly of clay-limestone and basaltic soil; the latter is a volcanic soil formed from ancient lava, which contains high proportions of iron and imparts a distinctive minerality to the wine. The vineyard is certified organic and HVE Level 3 certified for sustainability. The vines are surrounded by hedges to protect them from pesticide treatments in the neighbouring fields and also to provide a refuge for the wildlife, enhancing biodiversity. Harvested in the cool of the night to retain freshness and at high ripeness levels to avoid any green flavours or bitterness.

  This is 100% Grenache from old vines, with no sulfur added; pure and fresh.

  In the glass, the colour is deep red with violet hues. Elegant aromas of red fruits (pomegranate, cherry) and wild Mediterranean herbs waft from the glass. The medium-bodied mouthfeel seduces by its freshness, its roundness, its juicy and vibrant character. Ageing potential : 3-5 years

  2022 Petit Chablis, Agnes and Didier Dauvissat

  This fantastic taut, classic Petit Chablis is made by Florent Dauvissat, part of the famous Dauvissant Chablis family.  While they are the newest of the Dauvissat Domaines, their vineyards now stretch over 10 hectares, with parcels in Petit Chablis, AC Chablis village and the 1er cru Beauroy.

  In the glass, it has aromas of lemon blossom, green apple and striking oyster shell salinity. The palate is fine, and elegant, with a steely citrusy core.   This is an ideal wine for that Sunday roast chicken.

  A fresh, fragrant blend, with fragrant lemony fruit and herbal notes from the garrigue. Beautifully balanced with rounded fruit underpinned by lovely mineral freshness.

  The Domaine Gardiés vineyards nestle in the foothills of Corbières, where the clay- limestone of the scrubland gives this a part of the Domaine’s soil its characteristic finesse. The climate is Mediterranean, the hot, arid summers encouraging the vines to struggle and send their roots deep into the soil in search of nutrients, resulting in complex wines. The low-yielding vines produce 30 hl/ha. The region is characterised by the eight different types of wind blow across the wine growing area and, one day out of three, the mighty Tramontane, a dominating northerly wind, sweeps through the region. These drying winds help keep vineyards in a healthy condition, reducing the need for pest control or other human intervention. Domaine Gardiés is certified organic, the vines are hand-harvested and biodiversity in the vineyard is encouraged.

  Another cracker from Chateau de Santenay!  This wine is pale gold in colour and very expressive on the nose with aromas of bright citrus fruit and white flowers. The palate has a lovely texture from the oak ageing, with concentrated flavours of white peach and vanilla balanced with racy acidity.

  The fruit for the Mercurey ‘Le Roc Blanc’ comes from Chateau de Santenay’s 72 hectares of vines planted across the Mercurey appellation. The soils are rich in clay, with limestone still very evident alongside some areas of marl. These characteristics give the white wines of Mercurey a strong structure and a beautiful texture

  The Domaine Chignard Fleurie ‘Les Moriers’ is crafted from Gamay vines with an average age of 65+ years that are south facing to maximise their exposure to the sun and aid ripening. The steep slope on which these old vines reside flows down into Moulin-à-Vent, which is why ‘Les Moriers’ has gained such great recognition. Bottled unfined and unfiltered this wine is like a marriage of the two styles; the typical floral Fleurie character but it also has the intensity normally associated with Moulin-à-Vent.
