This highly rated Super Tuscan from the iconic Banfi estate is an intense and deep wine showing a rich and complex nose, with fruity hints of cherry and raspberries, accompanied by notes of aromatic herbs and toasted almonds. In the mouth, it is broad, and shows all its grandeur, with sweet tannins and a very persistent flavour.

The Reserve range continues to be the best of what Xanadu are able to produce in a given vintage – single vineyard or otherwise. Fruit was predominantly sourced from two mature, dry grown vineyards; Timber Creek, in the Wilyabrup subregion; and Victory Point in the Treeton subregion of Margaret River and was supplemented with a small amount of Malbec from the Stevens Road vineyard in Wallcliffe. The resulting blend from these vineyards has married beautifully, proving again that sometimes ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’.

The 1er Cru of Montmains is one of the best known Premier Cru vineyards and stretches along an exposed hillside to the southwest of the town of Chablis. It is angled slightly east toward the morning sun, the slopes of the vineyard have enough sunshine to ripen grapes, while still retaining the fresh acidity that is so important to Chablis wines. Montmains is known for producing fresh, elegant wines with good minerality.
Calcarole is the flagship Amarone Riserva from Guerrieri Rizzardi—produced only in exceptional vintages and in very limited quantities. Sourced from the historic marogne (dry stone-walled terraces) of the Calcarole vineyard, perched up to 230 meters in Negrar di Valpolicella, this prized cru benefits from a uniquely warm microclimate, calcareous soils, and an ideal southwest exposure.
Hand-harvested from naturally low-yielding, mature vines, the grapes are selected at peak ripeness and air-dried for several months in traditional wooden crates. After a slow fermentation, the wine undergoes extended ageing in oak, allowing its complexity and structure to evolve gracefully.

The Grand Crus of Verzenay and Mailly are located at the heart of Pinot Noir terroir and produce wine with rich aromas of red fruits, spices, and saline undertones. The Premier Crus of Ludes, Chigny-les-Roses, and Rilly-la-Montagne add structure and freshness to both Pinot Noirs and Meuniers. This cuvée was made exclusively from Premier and Grand Cru vineyards.
The Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is where it all began. In 1971 this was the first vineyard planted in what became the world-class, cool-climate Sta. Rita Hills appellation.
Bright, ruby red, the 2019 Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir entices with aromatic spicy red fruits, complemented by notes of wet stone and dried herb. The palate delivers earthy raspberry flavours with lush, silky texture. The bright acidity and supple tannins give the wine great structure and length. To allow the vineyard to shine through, the winemakers take a gentle approach in the cellar, using traditional Burgundian techniques.
The wine was aged in French Oak barrels (35% new) for 14 months where it gained concentration, while allowing the tannins to soften. This wine is drinking well now, but has the balance and structure to age beautifully for the next 12 to 15 years.
This is an incredible vintage of Chateau Montelena’s flagship Chardonnay.
In the glass it has a bright gold in colour and is incredibly aromatic, the ripeness of the vintage is most pronounced initially; melon, perfume, and orange blossom slowly give way to fresh peach, honeysuckle and apricot. There is very little overt oak influence on the nose, although it comes across subtly in the background as pie crust and toast.
On the palate, it’s the suppleness and silky mouthfeel that strike first, although there’s abundant mango and citrus with Meyer lemon here as well. The minerality is chalky and distinct, a beautiful contrast that layers in with the acid adding both complexity and depth.
The finish is exceptional: There’s slightly more wood on the transition to the finish, surfacing as baking spice and crème brûlée. However, they’re handily overwhelmed by notes of Asian pear, mango and pineapple— absolutely delicious. In time, expect hazelnuts and almonds to appear.
The Vigna Marrucheto single vineyard is viewed as ‘Grand Cru’ in Brunello and is the jewel in the Banfi crown.
Intense ruby red in colour, the nose is powerful and rich, showing great freshness and vitality. Sensory complexity is evident in the rich, fruity profile of red fruit notes such a blackberry and ripe cherry that combine with Mediterranean hints of carob and figs. Spicy notes of counter pepper and bay leaves emerge on the finish. The body is full, the tannins silky and well integrated. The harmonious and balanced finish makes the wine unique and with great personality
This wine is made from grapes from the famed El Diablo vineyard, which sits on a ridge above Eastside Road in the Russian River Valley AVA. Aromas of flamboyant pineapple, orange blossom and hints of coriander seed, marzipan and lemongrass lead to a palate delivering lovely tension, tropical fruit and finishing with great purity.
2021 shows excellent concentration and very clean fruit, which makes for age-worthy Chardonnay with high acidity and ripe fruit characters.
