  This fantastic taut, classic Petit Chablis is made by Florent Dauvissat, part of the famous Dauvissant Chablis family.  While they are the newest of the Dauvissat Domaines, their vineyards now stretch over 10 hectares, with parcels in Petit Chablis, AC Chablis village and the 1er cru Beauroy.

  In the glass, it has aromas of lemon blossom, green apple and striking oyster shell salinity. The palate is fine, and elegant, with a steely citrusy core.   This is an ideal wine for that Sunday roast chicken.

  Mongrana is the quintessential expression of the colours, sights and sounds of the Maremma region: fruity and intense, fresh and embracing, the wine takes its name – and its character – from that of the noble family of knights depicted by the Italian Renaissance poet Ludovico Ariosto in his epic masterpiece Orlando Furioso.

  The charm of Mongrana does not take long to reveal. Well-defined aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry, blackberry and blueberry jump out of the glass, anticipating a complex bouquet of kirsch, ivy, and pine needles, enriched by a touch of liquorice.

  On the palate, it offers a juicy, fresh sip with soft tannins. The long finale is savoury, with a mineral note that persists in the mouth.

  At Chapel Hill there exists a deep respect for the land and their vines – managed by Rachel Steer (viticulturist), and under the diligent guidance of winemakers Michael Fragos and Bryn Richards, Chapel Hill hand craft wines with integrity and typicity.   The 2021 MV Shiraz is a plush and generous wine from McLaren Vale showing all its wonderful plump smooth drinking qualities.  Regional aromas of wild berries, pepper, chocolate and dried herbs. The palate has an approachable swagger and that regional savoury nuance. Delivering on the taught palate wild berries, cassis, star anise and tobacco. Time in oak has wrapped around the fruit acidity and silky tannins resulting in a vibrant style that needs a short time in the glass before it reveals its true character.

  The Domaine Gardiés vineyards nestle in the foothills of Corbières, where the clay- limestone of the scrubland gives this a part of the Domaine’s soil its characteristic finesse. The climate is Mediterranean, the hot, arid summers encouraging the vines to struggle and send their roots deep into the soil in search of nutrients, resulting in complex wines. The low-yielding vines produce 30 hl/ha. The region is characterised by the eight different types of wind blow across the wine growing area and, one day out of three, the mighty Tramontane, a dominating northerly wind, sweeps through the region. These drying winds help keep vineyards in a healthy condition, reducing the need for pest control or other human intervention. Domaine Gardiés is certified organic, the vines are hand-harvested and biodiversity in the vineyard is encouraged.

  Each component of the blend comes from carefully selected, high altitude, cool climate sites which produce grapes with aromatic complexity and beautiful freshness. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is located in the premium viticultural region of Gualtallary, where the vines are planted in calcareous soils at 1,400 metres above sea level. The Semillon grapes come from a low-yielding 50-year-old vineyard in La Consulta, where the vines grow at 1,000 metres elevation in sandy soils and produce rich, concentrated wines. The Chardonnay component comes from La Carrera which is located at 1,700 metres above sea level in sandy soils which are supported by gravel and boulder.

  The 2023 vintage of The Chocolate Block continues to build on its legacy as one of South Africa’s most iconic and sought-after red blends. Crafted predominantly from Syrah, with carefully selected additions of Grenache, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier (blend proportions vary annually), this cult-status wine showcases Boekenhoutskloof’s mastery in balancing innovation and consistency. Only 4,043 barrels were produced, further enhancing its rarity and appeal.

  In the glass, the wine opens with an intensely aromatic bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, and ripe bramble fruit, intertwined with black olive tapenade, crushed violets, and a dusting of white pepper and coriander seed.   Wallace takes on the traditional Barossa Valley blend of Shiraz and Grenache in a modern way. The Shiraz brings backbone, flesh and body to the wine with the Grenache adding a soft, vibrant juiciness.

  Wallace is made from exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. Vine ages are 50—80 years old for the Shiraz and 50—100 years old for the Grenache.

  In the glass, the wine has lifted aromas of bright red fruits with fresh spice notes of star anise and cedar.  The palate has bright red berry fruit, redcurrant and liquorice flavours that complement the soft and rounded Grenache fruit tannin and the savoury finish of Shiraz. Lovely refreshing acidity provides both lift and depth.

  Wallace is an ancestral name of Colin’s wife, Judith, whose family hail from the old market town of Cupar in Fife, Scotland. Judith’s Celtic ancestry is reflected in the three elements of the Wallace symbol – the Celtic cross, thistle and the Celtic knot pattern.

  821 refers to the minimum total number of days necessary to produce this wine from the beginning of the growing season to the moment the bottle leaves the cellar.
