  • 2015 Lunatico, Domaine Aubai MemaRed Wine

    2015 Lunatico, Domaine Aubai Mema

    £2100

We love old vine Grenache and this beauty is no exception!  Intense ruby colour in the glass with a focused, expressive nose with upfront red fruit and a subtle spice note. Full, ample, warm palate opening up to the fruit. The peppery nose dimension recurs on the finish. Lovely length that draws you into that second sip…

The Grenache for Lunatico comes from a small north-facing vineyard over half a century old. The grapes are hand-picked then sorted, though not destemmed, and vinified very gently over a 25 day period using only natural yeasts. The 24 months spent in 600-litre barrels gives Lunatico an ageing perspective of 10-15 years.

  • 2019 Rocim Indigena Organic, Herdade do RocimRed Wine

2019 Rocim Indigena Organic, Herdade do Rocim

    £2100

This deeply coloured and concentrated wine is made from 100% Alicante Bouschet, a once popular French red grape that has now found a home in the Alentejo region of Portugal.  It has a wonderful depth of dark berried fruit complemented by a characteristic eucalyptus note. Full bodied, with vibrant freshness that beautifully balances the intensity of fruit.

The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30 mile long east-west facing escarpment which rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location it is one of the most temperate sub regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences of 15°C which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights.

  • 2016 Zweigelt, HeinrichRed Wine

    2016 Zweigelt, Heinrich

    £2195

If you’re a lover of Beaujolais or Valpolicella then this Austrian Red made from 100% Zweigelt could be the one for you.   In the UK we drink very little Austrian red wines and the Wine Republic team are guilty of that as well BUT we we do we are always pleasantly surprised by how good they can be, and this Zweigelt from Heinrich is one of those wines.

The vines of 2016 bequeathed grapes with extraordinary finesse.  In the glass you will find a dance of cherry aromas from morello to wild.  On the palate the tannins are fine but catchy. Despite all finesse and cool elegance, one attribute remains at the heart of this Zweigelt: pure juiciness. To allow this mouth- watering juiciness to flow unhindered, serve best at 15-16° C.

2020 Rocim ‘Amphora’ Red, Herdade do Rocim

    £2395

This Amphora wine has aromatic notes of black cherry, raspberry, plum and delicate vegetal notes that lead to a textured palate, balanced by freshness. It reveals a salty and textural minerality through to a fresh finish. Serve with game or mature cheese.

This wine is made from organically grown grapes; 70% of the vineyard is certified and the remaining 30% is in conversion. The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30-mile long east-west facing escarpment that rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location, it is one of the most temperate sub-regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights. • 2021 ‘Les Glacières’ Côtes du Roussillon, Domaine GardiésWhite Wine

2021 ‘Les Glacières’ Côtes du Roussillon, Domaine Gardiés

    £2450

A fresh, fragrant blend, with fragrant lemony fruit and herbal notes from the garrigue. Beautifully balanced with rounded fruit underpinned by lovely mineral freshness.

The Domaine Gardiés vineyards nestle in the foothills of Corbières, where the clay- limestone of the scrubland gives this a part of the Domaine’s soil its characteristic finesse. The climate is Mediterranean, the hot, arid summers encouraging the vines to struggle and send their roots deep into the soil in search of nutrients, resulting in complex wines. The low-yielding vines produce 30 hl/ha. The region is characterised by the eight different types of wind blow across the wine growing area and, one day out of three, the mighty Tramontane, a dominating northerly wind, sweeps through the region. These drying winds help keep vineyards in a healthy condition, reducing the need for pest control or other human intervention. Domaine Gardiés is certified organic, the vines are hand-harvested and biodiversity in the vineyard is encouraged.

    £2495

The vines are planted at a density of between 5,000 to 6,000 vines per hectare, which produce concentrated wines. The vines are trellised using espaliers to ensure optimal sunlight exposure, allowing the grapes to ripen evenly. Pruning, de-budding and thinning out of the leaves are all conducted manually and to environmentally-friendly specifications. The grapes are harvested by hand and are transported to the cellar in special bins to preserve the quality of the fruit. The vines are grown in compliance with the rules of sustainable agriculture set by Terra Vitis.
