  This stunning Sauvignon blanc is made by one of the top New Zealand’s top wine makers, Ben Glover and is an homage to his late sister, Kate.

  It is a zesty Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc offers the best of what the region has to offer. There are lovely aromas of white peach, melon and tropical fruits. Wonderful tastes of tropical passion fruit, guava and mandarin on the palate as well as a mouth-watering succulence and a delightful persistence.

  As Jancis Robinson says: “a more complex Marlborough Sauvignon than most, with notes of greenery. A superior version of a well-loved style of wine.”

  Nicknamed ‘Bob’ by her family (some of you may recognize the Blackadder reference), Bob Short for Kate is a tribute to Kate Glover, an amazing young drama teacher and Ben’s sister, who passed away in 2018. Ben explains that he has looked to produce a wine that characterises the honesty, purity and confidence of Kate. These are organic, Marlborough wines, reliant on selected blocks from the family’s vines and exceptional fruit selection. Not to mention the skill of one of the region’s most well-regarded winemakers.

  The Alea Riesling comes from a narrow corridor of hard red rock with poor, orangey, red loam vineyard reminded Jeff of the great German rieslings that were not fully dry, he decided to take a very different approach to the creation of Alea. With moderate baumes, high acidity and low pH, the aim was to make a wine with a generous palate balanced by zippy natural acidity on the finish.

   The 2013 Grosset Alea Riesling is delightfully floral with white flowers and a whisper of lemon blossom and fresh garden herbs. There are lime juice flavours, a hint of lemon and a beautifully balanced long generous palate that leads to a gentle grip and zingy dry finish. “The Alea has come of age” says Jeff. “This vintage is a fraction drier than previous releases and is wonderfully complex while remaining delicate and perfectly balanced. We put this down to equal measures of vineyard maturity and experience.”

  Owned by actor Sam Neill – of Jurassic Park, The Piano and Peaky Blinders fame – Two Paddocks is a fabulous winery in Central Otago that produces outstanding Pinot Noir and Riesling.

  Featuring the Proprietor’s Grandfather, Sydney Neill – Wine Merchant, on the label, Picnic Riesling is described by the winery as ‘our perennial favourite and a wonderful introduction to the pleasure of Central Otago Riesling.   2020 Monbazillac, Domaine l’Ancienne Cure

  This organic Monbazillac from Domaine de l’Ancienne Cure is a wonderfully rich sweet wine made from low yields of late-harvested, botrytised, Semillon (90%) and Muscadelle (10%).    In the glass, it has a wonderful golden robe, barley sugar bouquet and complex dried fruit palate offset by fine acidity. It has a lovely tawny colour and is richly honeyed with complex notes of dried fruits, nuts and caramel with a heady orange blossom bouquet.

  Traditionally, Monbazillac wine is served chilled before the main meal, often as an accompaniment to foie gras, but it makes an equally harmonious partner for fruit-based desserts or cheese, particularly blue cheese. Certified organic.

  This is a staff and customer favourite at Wine Republic.   Complex and full of texture, it opens in the glass with aromas of lemon and grapefruit which give way to delicious notes of olive brine, smoke and biscuit.   The palate is complex with an exquisite tangy fresh acidity and a beautiful minerality.

  Domaine la Haut Fevrie is one of the leading producers in Muscadet Sever et Maine.  Melon de Bourgogne is a grape that expresses the nuances of the individual vineyards and Gras Moutons is one of these individual vineyard sites.

  Valencian winemaker Víctor Marqués has crafted a fabulous wine using organic, biodynamic and sustainable principles.  It opens in the glass with intense aromas of tropical fruit with notes of vanilla and roasted flavours.  Full-bodied on the palate, soft and silky texture, well-integrated acidity. Intense notes of pineapple and vanilla with a very long finish. This Chardonnay has a great character and an impressive length.

  After whole bunch pressing the wine ages on its lees for five months in French oak which adds subtle vanilla and toasty notes to the intense tropical pineapple flavours and aromas.

  2017 Manzan, Casa Lo Alto

  Casa Lo Alto Manzán is made from Bobal, a grape that is increasingly attracting the attention of wine consumers. Most people have never heard of Bobal, and yet it is the second most planted red grape variety in Spain, second only to Tempranillo!  Traditionally used in bulk wine production it is no finding it feet as a standalone wine and as the muse of exceptional winemakers such as Casa Lo Alto’s Valencian winemaker Víctor Marqués.  Using organic, biodynamic and sustainable principles he has crafted this stunning Bobal from three vineyards planted between 1940 and 1965.

  Casa Lo Alto Manzán 2017 is a fluid red wine with light herbaceous aromas and Incisive red fruit. On the palate, it is fresh and fruity, with medium acidity and mouthwatering dry tannins.  This really is such a pure and joyful wine and deserves your attention!

  Interesting facts: The vines are planted bush-style in order to save water and protect them from over-exposure to the sun. In the soil, which is calcareous clayey and poor in organic matter, the use of chemical products is avoided and biodynamic preparations are used.   In the winery, the grapes are destemmed but not pressed. Once they arrive, they undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. After pressing the juice is then decanted into barrels to rest on its lees for approximately 10 months.

  A refreshing cuvée made from Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Roussanne is full of lime, citrus and white fruit aromas leading to a textured palate with beautiful balance and a crisp, mouthwatering finish.

  The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea, and surrounded by mountain ranges. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which offer balance to the hot, arid summers.   The Glover family were one of the first to plant grapes on their farm in Marlborough’s Dillon’s Point sub-region in 1988. Nineteen years later, led by eldest son Ben, the family launched Zephyr, a range of single vineyard wines from the farm. The name Zephyr means ‘a gentle breeze’. Inspired by the prevailing wind that moderates their vineyards.

  A pale green colour, it is showing lime peel, blossom and snow peas on the nose. Lemongrass, melon, fennel seed and lime on the palate. This shows classic Dillon’s Point characteristics.

  2019 Rocim Indigena Organic, Herdade do Rocim

  This deeply coloured and concentrated wine is made from 100% Alicante Bouschet, a once popular French red grape that has now found a home in the Alentejo region of Portugal.  It has a wonderful depth of dark berried fruit complemented by a characteristic eucalyptus note. Full bodied, with vibrant freshness that beautifully balances the intensity of fruit.

  The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30 mile long east-west facing escarpment which rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location it is one of the most temperate sub regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences of 15°C which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights.
