  • 2021 The Money Spider Organic Roussanne, d’Arenberg Wine Republic Heros White Wine

2021 The Money Spider Organic Roussanne, d’Arenberg

    £1695

There’s a real ‘standing in a field during spring’ vibe to this wine. Lots of golden sunshine, cut-straw, and yellow peach flavours. It’s round, and generous, with substantial palate weight and mouthfeel. It’s rich, toasty, and opulent.

The name of the wine originates from the fact that the first crop of Roussanne from the 2000 vintage was covered in tiny ‘Money Spiders’. Popular belief is that kindness to these creatures will bring good luck, so Chester refrained from sending the spiders to their death. By the next year, the Money Spiders had relocated, making the first release of this wine in 2001.

  • 2021 ‘1753’ Syrah Vermentino Rosé, Château de Campuget Rose Wine

2021 ‘1753’ Syrah Vermentino Rosé, Château de Campuget

    £1695

A classic rose petal colour, this elegant, dry rosé shows aromatic notes of grapefruit and delicate citrus hints, through to a refreshing palate of red berry fruits with a lifted finish.

The terroir in the vineyard is characterised by the ‘Galets’ or large pebbles that are remnants of Alpine glaciers that have been smoothed over millennia by the Rhône. These pebbles absorb and store the heat from the sun during the day and release it at night, encouraging the vines to ripen the grapes. The vines here have established a deep root system enabling them to draw the mineral elements they need to grow and providing a complexity of flavour to the resulting wine. The Mediterranean sunshine is vital to the maturation and phenolic ripeness of the grapes.

  • 2018 Altesse ‘Madame de M…’, Domaine Vendange White Wine

2018 Altesse ‘Madame de M…’, Domaine Vendange

    £1695

With a brioche opening, complex aromas of floral blossom, spice and flinty notes surround a core of pear and citrus. Intense and precise, the textured palate is lively, balanced and underpinned by elegant mineral notes. Drink now to 2025.

The Domaine de Vendange estate extends over 10 hectares, planted on south-facing slopes where the local Savoie grape varieties fully express their typicity. The 25- year old Jacquère vines yield 65 hectolitres per hectare. The soils are formed of glacial moraine; they are very young limestone soils made up of limestone scree, with layers of silty clay, which produce elegant, fresh wines. The vines are planted at 400 metres’ elevation, yet despite the altitude and mountainous location, the summers are surprisingly hot. This distinctive microclimate encourages the grapes to reach optimum maturity with concentrated juice, balanced by mountain-cool freshness. The vines are cultivated using integrated agriculture practices, maintaining the greatest respect for terroir and tradition. The focus is on green harvesting with pruning, debudding, trellising and leaf stripping. All grapes are hand-harvested. In 2021, the domain moved into conversion to organic status.

  • 2019 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Vielles Vignes, Domaine Saint Damien Red Wine

2019 Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu Vielles Vignes, Domaine Saint Damien

    £1695

An opulent and spicy full-flavoured wine, with layered flavours of prunes and garrigue from this award-winning producer.

The vineyards are located in the relatively new appellation of Plan de Dieu, which translates as Plan of God in English. Despite the first historical mentions of the “Plan Dei”, which date back to a parchment from 1326, the lieu-dit of Plan de Dieu was only designated a red wine producing appellation in 2005. The climate here is classic Mediterranean with the additional influence of the Mistral winds. The terroir sits on an alluvial plateau with calcareous gravel, which retains water, helping to preserve the vines during the hot and often arid summer months.

  • 2019 Chianti Classico ‘San Jacopo’, Castello Vicchiomaggio Red Wine

2019 Chianti Classico ‘San Jacopo’, Castello Vicchiomaggio

    £1695

The wines of Castello Vicchiomaggio truly show off the Sangiovese grape at its best. Vicchiomaggio is consistently classified amongst Italy’s top estates and winemaker John Matta has been named IWSC Italian Winemaker of the Year four times in the last 14 years.

The 2019 Chianti Classico ‘San Jacopo’ is named after an antique farmhouse located on the wine estate.   It is a lovely expression of Chianti, with red cherry and cranberry fruits, the palate has good substance and a lingering, rounded finish.

The vineyards are located in the heart of the Chianti Classico region and sit at an altitude of 255 to 265 metres above sea level. The Chianti Classico area is characterised by a Mediterranean climate and the soil, which is called “Galestro”, is rich in clay and large stones. The soils in this vineyard are made up of a high proportion of heavy clay- approximately 30%- which is renowned for its cooling properties and water retention for the vine, as well as for producing bold wines from the Sangiovese grape. Planted at a density of 5,600 vines per hectare, the vines are pruned according to the Single Guyot method which ensures low yields of approximately 52 hectolitres per hectare. Particular attention is paid to the direction in which the vines are planted; they are all south-facing, ensuring maximum exposure to the sun throughout the day.

  • 2017 ‘Maggio’ Old Vines Petite Sirah, Oak Ridge Winery Red Wine

2017 ‘Maggio’ Old Vines Petite Sirah, Oak Ridge Winery

    £1695

This richly coloured wine offers opulent notes of dark berried fruit and blueberry, with nuances of black pepper, fine cocoa and vanilla. Showing lovely balance, the ripe fruit is enveloped in elegant tannins through to a lingering finish.

The winemaking philosophy at Oak Ridge honours the importance of finding balance between the land and the makers, beginning first with growing quality grapes. Maggio has become part of the Lodi Rules initiative, which guides sustainable farming practices. Created by farmers it was initially launched as a grassroots educational integrated pest management programme in 1992. Recognising the importance of the ecosystem and biodiversity in the vineyard, it includes pest management initiatives, such as introducing natural predators, which minimises the risks to birds, bees, water and people. Water is carefully managed to ensure efficiency and waste is limited. The soils are treated with organic matter and are cultivated to maximise water penetration to sustain the vine’s roots. As a result the grapes are concentrated with flavour, which translates into fruit-forward, expressive wines.

    £1695

However, winemaker Frank-Lin Dalle has chosen to designate this wine as Vin de France to distinguish the distinctive style of this wine, which has been made without sulphites. Sourced from the best plots of Grenache on the estate, where the main character is the soil, which is formed of ‘galets’, an accumulation of rounded pebbles that have been deposited by the overflowing Rhône River thousands of years ago. Due to this natural soil filter; the vine’s roots can easily draw the necessary water for their growth. The grapes also benefit from the Mediterranean sunshine, encouraging maximum phenolic maturity

  • 2023 ‘The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree’ Torrontes, Matias Riccitelli White Wine

2023 ‘The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree’ Torrontes, Matias Riccitelli

    £1695

Torrontes is Argentina’s signature white grape and this 2022 Torrontes is made from 40-year-old vines in the Uco Valley and is a classic example of the variety.  Made by superstar winemaker Matias Riccitelli, it has a fresh nose with inviting aromas of roses and citrus. On the palate, it’s complex, refreshing with a deliciously creamy texture.

The grapes are grown in Tupungato, a renowned high-altitude wine district in the north of the Uco Valley. The climate offers excellent conditions for premium viticulture. The vines are planted at 1,000 meters above sea level and benefit from large diurnal temperature variations which result in a longer growing season. The heat assists in the promotion of sugar levels in the ripening grapes, while the coolness of the night retains acidity levels, achieving healthy and balanced berries.
