  Tropical aromas of passionfruit, guava and blackcurrant combine with nettle and subtle chalky mineral notes. The rich, full palate with grapefruit and blackcurrant leaf is enveloped in green notes of nettle and pepper and a delicate sea salt character, through to a long, mineral finish.

  The grapes was sourced from a selection of vineyards located predominantly in the lower Wairau sub-region. This is what Saint Clair regards as Marlborough’s best subregion for Sauvignon Blanc, producing wines with heightened expression. These vineyards sit on alluvial, silt soils. Each vineyard block was harvested when it reached maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.

  The grapes are grown in the San Floriano del Collio, Gorizia, Cormòns and Mossa territories in DOC Collio. The soils on the hilly region are known as ‘Ponca’, which rich in sandstone with alternating layers of marl, which produces aromatic wines.   A complex expression of Carignan with notes of cured meat, spice, bay leaves and aniseed leading to dried cranberry and pomegranate flavours. Fresh on entry, with vibrant tannins and an elegant finish.

  The vineyard is located on the slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where it endures wide diurnal temperature differences and strong winds. The grapes for this wine are from 100% bush vines grown on soils with a high percentage of shale and quartz. This is the rockiest vineyard on the farm and is planted at 350 metres above sea level. The vines are densely planted and endure a very dry and tough micro climate due to the high amount of rocks in the soil. The combination of rocky soils and high density planting, results in competition between the vines and in turn deeper root systems. The deep root systems enable the vine to develop a good buffer during drought conditions. The rocky soils also add more stress, so the vines deliver very small berries with a concentrated fruit, good body and fresh acidity.

  The vines are grown at high altitude in Cafayate, situated at 1,700 metres above sea level surrounded by the Andes Mountains. Cafayate is one of the highest regions in the world suitable for viticulture and this high altitude is what defines the terroir of the region. The vines are exposed to intense sunlight which results in the grapes forming thicker and darker skins to protect themselves from the ultraviolet rays; leading to more colour and flavour concentration in the grapes.
