    £1995

This is cracking value Pinot Noir from Burgundy made by Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume who has delivered quality for a price that is hard to find in today’s sky-high burgundy market.

2018 Sauvignon Blanc ‘Eggo Blanc de Cal’, Zorzal

    £1995

Zorzal is an Argentinian boutique winery that is located at the highest point of the Uco Valley. Hailed as one of the most exclusive and well-regarded areas for viticulture in Argentina, the terroir is revealed in the Zorzal wines through a respectful, non-invasive winemaking process that puts austerity before exuberance and fruit before wood.

This is a characterful and bright Sauvignon Blanc showcasing mineral intensity combined with enticing white peach notes. The wonderful volume and texture on the palate is balanced by refreshing acidity, through to a persistent finish.

The grapes are grown in a high altitude, drip irrigated single vineyard in Tupungato, Gualtallary, in the outstanding vine-growing area of the Uco Valley. Located at 1,350 metres above sea-level, Gualtallary is the highest vine-growing zone in the Province of Mendoza, situated at the foot of the Tupungato volcano. This zone is characterised by its combination of altitude, alluvial soils, sunny days, low rainfall and wide temperature ranges. The diurnal temperatures here oscillate between 35°C and 17°C, creating long, slow ripening periods; concentrating the flavours in the fruit while retaining refreshing balance. • 2015 Red, Heinrich Red Wine

    2015 Red, Heinrich

    £1995

The easy-drinking entrance ticket to Heinrich’s world of wine is presented in velvety, deep ruby-red. Red-berried fruit, in particular, crisp cherry is the central element of this light-footed blend of the local varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St. Laurent. This is accompanied by subtle tobacco, peppery notes and thorough juiciness. Sophisticated simplicity is the focus of this cool red wine and simplicity indeed demands mastery. Despite the warm vintage, this wine excels with fruit opulence, moderate alcohol, and subtle tannin as it refreshes with herbal spice and nervy acid.

The “red” is sourced from both sides of the Neusiedler See (Lake Neusiedl). On the west side, vines are rooted in the limestone and schist of the Leithaberg (Leitha Mountains) slopes – on the east side of the lake vines in the gravelly Parndorfer Platte (Parndorfer Plain) and humus-rich Heideboden.

  • 2017 Nivarius ‘Edicion Limitada’, Palacios Vinos de Finca White Wine

2017 Nivarius ‘Edicion Limitada’, Palacios Vinos de Finca

    £1995

Bodegas Nivarius specialises in the production of white wines from cool-climate vineyards in Rioja.  This wine represents the perfect blend of the terroir and the cool-climate region, with its warm days and cool nights prolonging the ripening period and encouraging aromatic richness. The Viura grapes come from the sandy soils of the Najerilla, and the limestone soils of the Sonsierra, and are blended with Maturana Blanca from the Iregua Valley, grown in sandy soils. Maturana Blanca is an ancient native variety with small clusters and small, elliptical grapes which produces vibrant, tangy wines characterised by high, natural acidity.

In the glass it has an aromatic and complex bouquet of baked apple, floral and balsamic notes, layered with nutty tones and a hint of minerality. The palate is fresh, rounded and balanced, with lovely texture and finishes with stone fruits and a touch of almond.

Nivarius, meaning ‘snow-drift’, takes its name from the common sight of the snowy blanket which covers the vineyards in winter.

  • 2011 The Hermit Crab Viognier/Marsanne, d’Arenberg Wine Republic Heros White Wine

    2011 The Hermit Crab Viognier/Marsanne, d’Arenberg

    £1995

The 2011 Hermit  has an Incredibly fragrant nose full of sweet apricot and gingery spice. The palate is luscious and generous but has great acid which tightens the wine, adding freshness and a clean crisp finish. Slight pithy feel which builds on the spice notes. Lovely as a fresh stand-alone drink that still exhibits some mouthfeel, or equally well adapted to enjoy with a range of foods from freshly shucked oysters through to spicy Thai style dishes.

Many of McLaren Vale’s vineyards are on free-draining soils underlain with limestone, formed by the calcareous remains of the local marine fauna. One such creature was the Hermit Crab, a reclusive little crustacean that inhabits the cast-off shells of others. The Osborn family thought the name appropriate for this, McLaren Vale’s first-ever blend of Viognier and Marsanne. “Hermit” is also an abbreviation for the French appellation of Hermitage, where the Marsanne grape variety dominates.

  • 2022 ‘Derringstone’ Pinot Meunier Blanc de Noirs, Simpsons Wine Estate White Wine

2022 ‘Derringstone’ Pinot Meunier Blanc de Noirs, Simpsons Wine Estate

    £1995

Simpsons’ Wine Estate creates fine English wines, which reflect the exquisite characteristics of their iconic, chalk terroir in the North Downs of Kent.

Created from exclusively estate-grown and hand-picked Pinot Meunier grapes, this intriguing and truly unique ‘blanc de noirs’ was carefully vinified as a white wine. This is the third release of this wine.  It has a delicate rose gold hue and intriguing floral and orchard fruit aromas.  It displays sweet and savoury flavours of poached winter fruit with balsamic nuances and a luxuriously mouth-filling texture.

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.
