White WineThis wine is named after the legendary Queen Manthatisi of the Batlokwa tribe, a formidable military leader in the 1820s. Made from grapes in the Elgin Valley it is gorgeous blend of barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc (70%) with dollop of Riesling and Chenin Blanc.
Precise and fresh, with notes of ripe peach, citrus and grapefruit layered with nuances of almond, wet stone and a touch of anise. Harmoniously balanced, the tropical fruit is accented by a lovely earthy savouriness, through to a crisp, fresh finish.
White WineThis knockout wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc from Harry Hartman Wines is made from fruit picked in the premium regions of Elgin and Bot River. Elgin fruit has a higher level of acidity adding to the more citrus notes and making the wine more linear. Botrivier fruit is more rounded, with bigger tropical notes.
In the glass, the wine paints a picture of a basket filled with freshly picked kiwi and yellow plums. The fruit is clean and welcoming, backed with a perpetual herbaceous note that blows off as the wine evolves in your glass, leaving hints of spice and a creamy note of old-fashioned lemon candy. The palate is a continuation of the nose with that almond skin character giving way to a briny texture and taut acidity leaping over your tongue.
Red WineThe Midnight Elements Cabernet Sauvignon is part of the Elements range of wines from Paserene showcasing their vineyards and the skill of winemaker Martin Smith.
On the nose, you are met with dark notes of black cherry, cassis, and liquorice which make the mouth water instantly. The palate carries these aromas through, with succulent berry flavours complemented by rich vanilla undertones. There is a minerality that balances out the richness, with iodine and tannins making for an interesting first sip. You will also find flavours of woodsmoke and an earthiness that gives our Midnight a lingering, meaty finish.
The Midnight wine from Paserene’s Tulbagh wine estate and is the best example of this terroir’s propensity for developing grapes that have deep aromas and meaty flavours.
Red WineAn elegant Pinot Noir delivering a complex bouquet of crushed rose petals, wild jasmine and fresh French herbs. The palate shows beautiful purity with layered red fruits, cranberry, raspberry, silky tannins and a long, savoury finish.
This wine was made from Pinot Noir from 2 regions, 70% of the grapes came from Stanford, Walker Bay and 30% from Elgin, both in the cool climate region Cape South Coast. The vines are all Burgundian, clone 115. The Stanford vineyard is close to the southernmost tip of Africa and is located in one of South Africa’s coolest wine-producing regions. The maritime vineyard enjoys a long ripening season, because of the strong cooling winds that are prevalent in the summer. This microclimate is ideal for creating a long hang time, concentrating the flavours in the berries while retaining natural acidity levels. Elgin is situated at 400 metres above sea level and ripens even later than the coastal vineyard. The vines here, planted in shale and clay soils, produce fleshier fruit, adding weight to the blend.

The grapes come from eight to 10 small parcels of vineyards in several locations in the Elgin Valley. Elgin is the coolest wine region in South Africa and is situated on an inland, hexagonal-shaped plateau, at an altitude of 300 metres. The region is surrounded by mountains and lies just over six miles from the Atlantic Ocean, which brings occasional sea-borne mists. February is the hottest month of the year, with daytime temperatures peaking at 23°C and night-time temperatures dipping to 14°C. The benefit of this cooler climate is that the grape cluster stays connected to its roots for longer, so it develops complex characteristics and achieves physiological ripeness more gradually, resulting in lower sugar levels and consequently lower alcohol levels.

The Cartref soils, a mixture of decomposed granite, pebbles and quartz, add gracefulness and heighten the fruit intensity.
Only 552 bottles were produced.

They tend to exude freshness and energy with lively acidity giving precision to the wine. The Cartref soils, a mixture of decomposed granite, pebbles and quartz, add gracefulness and heighten the fruit intensity.
Only 598 bottles were produced.
White WineThis outstanding Chardonnay from Richard Kershaw MW is sourced from a parcel in the western part of Elgin the CY95 in the wines name is in reference to a clone of the Chardonnay grape that is known for its excellent quality creating wines that are aromatic, fuller bodied and rich yet tightly structured, well–balanced with length of flavour, managing to show restraint and mouth-watering passivity with a great line through the palate and fruit veering towards white peach flesh and nectarine. The Bokkeveld Shale brings amplified perfume to the nose and persistence and elegance to the palate.
Only 710 bottles were produced.
White WineThis outstanding Chardonnay from Richard Kershaw MW is sourced from a parcel in the western part of Elgin, the CY96 in the wines name is in reference to a clone of the Chardonnay grape that is known for its excellent quality, creating wines that are nervous, aromatic, elegant and crisp with slightly lower alcohol and finely balanced, the fruit profile being subtle with hints of citrus/orange peel and peach blossom and with time, some nutty elements. The Cartref soils, a mixture of decomposed granite, pebbles and quartz, add delicacy and heighten the fruit intensity.
