  Groot Constantia is the oldest wine estate in South Africa and has a remarkable history including having King Louis Philippe of France as there best customer!   Today they make exceptional wines in a sub-region of the Western cape called Constantia which is near Cape Town.

  Groot Constantia’s flagship red shows beautiful complexity on the nose, with ripe, rich flavours of blackcurrant, dark chocolate and graphite, enriched by notes of cinnamon and cedar wood from the generous use of new oak. The black fruit and sweet spice follow through to the palate and the firm structure promises excellent ageing potential.

  With its red colour with purplish tints, this Chateau Grand Pey Lescours will give you a lot of pleasure. Very fragrant, it is adorned with notes of black fruits and undergrowth. The 70% Merlot gives this wine a wonderfully soft plushness. Flavours of black cherries and blackberries and bramble fruit. The remainder of the blend is Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which adds structure and and earthy complexity. A true classic.    It will perfectly accompany rich pies, red meat dishes (lamb, coq au vin, etc.) but also white meat (duck with orange, for example).

  2018 Amarone della Valpolicella, Musella

  The 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG by Musella is a masterful expression of Valpolicella’s rich winemaking heritage, crafted with biodynamic precision and a deep respect for tradition. Sourced from estate vineyards nestled in the hills northeast of Verona, this wine is a blend of 50% Corvinone, 45% Corvina, 5% Rondinella, and 5% Oseleta. 

  The grapes undergo the traditional Appassimento process, where they are dried in well-ventilated rooms, losing at least 40% of their original weight. This concentrates their sugars, aromatic compounds, and noble tannins. In January, the grapes are gently pressed, and fermentation begins at low winter temperatures (13–17°C). The wine is then aged for 24 months in 3,500 to 5,000-litre oak barrels, followed by 12 months in concrete tanks, allowing it to develop depth and complexity. 

  In the glass, this Amarone reveals a deep ruby hue. The nose is rich with aromas of sweet cherries, dried fruits, spices, and hints of bitter chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, offering a harmonious balance of concentrated fruit flavours and a pleasantly tangy finish. The wine’s structure is supported by its 15.6% alcohol content, providing a robust yet refined experience.

  Masút Vineyard & Winery is a family-owned estate in Mendocino County’s Eagle Peak AVA, founded by third-generation winemakers Ben and Jake Fetzer. Rooted in their family’s deep California wine legacy, the brothers established Masút in 2009 to focus exclusively on estate-grown, small-lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.   The 2019 Masút Pinot Noir captures the estate’s essence: refined, vibrant, and seamlessly structured. Sourced from select estate vineyard blocks, this wine showcases the nuance and energy of high-elevation Pinot Noir, made with minimal intervention to preserve the natural character of the fruit and the terroir.

  Crafted in honour of Elderton co-founder Neil Ashmead, the 2022 Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz is a tribute to the passion and pioneering spirit that helped shape the Barossa Valley into one of Australia’s premier wine regions. This wine is a bold yet elegant expression of Shiraz, drawn from two distinctive vineyard sites: the historic Nuriootpa vineyard, planted in 1954, and the Greenock vineyard, established in 1980.

  Pesquera is one of the most foremost and respected wineries in the Ribera del Duero.  Highly sought after and each release is eagerly anticipated by fans around the world.

  This, their superb Reserva made from 100% tempranillo, is aged for 24 months in oak barrels before bottling. It has a whole array of aromas from black cherry and raspberry to vanilla and sweet oak spice. Rich and smooth on the palate it has abundant silky tannins and plenty of ripe fruit that mingle wonderfully with the sweet spice flavours picked up from the time spent in American oak barrels. While full bodied and well structured it also has a good freshness from the well judged acidity.

  In the glass is has a rich deep red colour with violet highlights, typical of young wines from great vintages. An intense nose blends notes of cherry and blackberry with subtle hints of chocolate. It is ample and unctuous in the mouth, with a distinct fleshy character. Understated tannins prolong the tasting experience while lending softness to the wine.   The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva is a beautifully composed wine, crafted from the estate’s finest Sangiovese parcels, aged in a combination of large oak casks and French barriques to add depth and refinement.

  In the glass, it displays an expressive bouquet of wild cherry, redcurrant, and dried rose, with hints of baking spice, sweet tobacco, and crushed herbs. The palate is pure and precise, offering layers of vibrant red fruit, framed by fine-grained tannins and a lifted acidity that speaks to its mountainous provenance. A gentle touch of oak adds polish without overpowering the wine’s natural brightness. The finish is long, graceful, and mineral-laced, with a lingering echo of tart cherry and subtle earthiness.

  The 2021 Riserva is a wine of both structure and finesse, ideal for cellaring over the next 10–15 years, but also captivating in its youth with a short decant.   Pegasus Bay is a family-owned estate in North Canterbury’s Waipara Valley, founded by the Donaldson family, pioneers of the region’s modern wine scene. With over three decades of winemaking experience, Pegasus Bay has established a reputation for producing complex, expressive wines that reflect both vineyard and vintage.  Maestro is part of the reserve series of wines from Pegasus Bay and represents the best of their Bordeaux fruit. As with all their reserve wines, they are only made in exceptional years.

  The 2020 ‘Maestro’ is a bold and captivating blend, marrying power with precision. In the glass, it reveals a deep, brooding purple hue. Aromatically, it leads with a rush of dark, savoury intensity, black forest fruits layered with earthy mushroom, aged soy, and hints of smoked game. Complex nuances of liquorice, eucalyptus, mixed spice, and tree moss enrich the bouquet, giving it both intrigue and gravitas. On the palate, the wine is robust and muscular, with a coiled energy that unfolds into bold tannins and vibrant acidity. This formidable structure is balanced by decadent fruit weight and seamless concentration, lending the wine breadth and a richly textured mouthfeel. The finish is expansive and persistent, carrying through savoury detail and spice.

  The vines used for ‘Maestro’ are grown on free-draining, north-facing terraces in the lee of the Teviotdale Range, which shelters them from harsh coastal winds and fosters a unique mesoclimate. The vineyard’s stony “Glasnevin Gravels” soil, composed of greywacke, loam, and silt, limits vine vigour and encourages low yields of intensely flavoured fruit. These conditions, coupled with warm days and some of the valley’s coolest nights, result in a long, even ripening period, allowing the Bordeaux varietals to develop full phenolic ripeness while retaining fresh acidity. Many vines are over 35 years old and remain planted on their own roots, contributing depth and authenticity to the wines.
