    2023 Koshu Kayagatake, Grace Winery

    £2195

Made from Japan’s most important indigenous grape variety: Koshu.   Elegant aromas of green apple, grapefruit, chamomile and white pepper lead to a smooth, bone dry palate. This is a delicate yet tense white wine, with a lively acidity that gives beautiful structure through to a long mouthwatering finish.

The grapes for this wine are grown on the foothills of Mt. Kayagatake from estate managed vineyards at an altitude of 400 to 700 metres. The vines are planted in distinctively volcanic soils with good drainage, providing excellent growing conditions. The vineyard has a cool climate but also abundant sunshine, allowing the slow maturation of the grapes over a long growing season.

    2017 HRB Riesling , Hardys

    £2195

Hardys – you may have thought that they only produce those cheap supermarket wines but they also produce some of Australia’s best premium wines.   HRB wines also known as Heritage Reserve Bin are exceptional multi-regional wines that offer incredible value and we urge you to try them!

BinD674 otherwise known as the 2017 HRB Riesling is made from fruit sourced from the Clare Valley and Tasmania. Brilliant water like colour with a slight tinge of green around the outskirts. Elevated lime juice and orange rind aromas interplay with citrusy talc like characters, green apple and steely mineral notes. Unfolding across the palate are intense lime and citrus flavours backed by a steely mineral infused core. Subtle orange rind and crunchy green apple elements are also apparent. Exceptional power, finishing dry with crisp mouth watering acidity and a long aftertaste.

HRB – Heritage Reserve Bin wines push the boundaries of winemaking through the cross-regional blending of hand-selected grapes. The distinct characteristics of the grapes from each region are considered and selected to complement and enhance each other. Only the premier Australian regions for each varietal are considered for inclusion in each vintage. The result is a complex, unique expression of the varietal, that retains the finest character of each terroir. The HRB range continues to evolve to provide the very best multi-regional, varietal wine from each vintage.

2019 Old Stage Chardonnay, Gabilan Winery

    £2195

A richly textured Chardonnay, with bright notes of citrus, pear and tangerine and a touch of oak spice through to a long, elegant finish with mineral nuances.

The fruit comes from the estate ‘Grava’ vineyard, which is one of the most northerly plantings in Monterey County. It nestles up to the Gabilan Mountain Range on the eastern side of the Salinas Valley; approximately 10 miles directly across from the Santa Lucia Highlands. The marine influence of the nearby Monterey Bay and the morning fog which clears for the afternoon sun, results in a cool mesoclimate and a long hang-time for the fruit. The grapes reflect the cool climate character, with complex aromatics and flavours and natural balancing acidity. The vineyard is cultivated sustainably and are certified by the California Sustainable Wine Growing Alliance.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2024-estate-pinot-gris-paringa-estate/">2024 Estate Pinot Gris, Paringa Estate</a>

2024 Estate Pinot Gris, Paringa Estate

    £2195

This superb Pinot Gris has lifted varietal aromas of fresh-cut pear and green apple, leading to a refreshing palate of crisp, ripe pear and vibrant citrus fruit flavours. This Pinot Gris is richly flavoured with a lovely mid-palate texture and balance.

The grapes for this wine come from 2 vineyards.  The 1st  is situated in the cool climate sub-region of Red Hill at an altitude of 146 metres above sea level. The estate vines are 14 years old and they provide 50% of the fruit for this wine. The remaining 50% comes from a contracted grower in Moorooduc which is a slightly warmer site and adds complexity and a layered dimension to the wine. The Mornington Peninsula is influenced by the cooling maritime climate, which helps the grapes to retain acidity as they ripen. The soils are generally red basalt, which stores sufficient water supplies to keep the vine irrigated through the warm summer season.  These soils are the result of ancient lava flows, are iron-rich, moderately fertile and drain surface water easily. This results in healthy vines with deep root systems, producing high-quality berries that translate into intense, concentrated wines.

    £2195

A fresh and elegant expression of Vermentino, with aromatic floral notes leading to a brisk and zesty citrus palate, beautifully balanced with a lovely mineral sensation on the long, vibrant finish.

The Campo alle Comete winery is located at the foot of the Castagneto Carducci hill. The oldest vines are planted around the cellar surrounded by the Mediterranean bushland. The proximity of the sea with its constant refreshing breezes plays an important role in the vine’s growth and the maturation of the fruit, where the fresh breezes impart natural balancing acidity to the sun-ripened fruit.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2022-amped-chardonnay-spoke/">2022 Amped Chardonnay, Spoke</a>

    2022 Amped Chardonnay, Spoke

    £2195

The 2022 Amped Chardonnay from Spoke Wines is a masterclass in textural Chardonnay.  Spoke is the visionary collaboration between Liam Steevenson MW and Marlborough winemaker Ben Glover, whose decades of experience in the region are channelled into site-focused, expressive wines that reflect both land and hand.

This 100% Chardonnay hails from the Wilde vineyard, located in a cool maritime pocket of Marlborough and rooted in silt loam and clay soils. These conditions, combined with minimal intervention winemaking, result in a wine that is richly layered, yet beautifully restrained.

On the nose, bruised green apple, stone fruit and almond are immediately apparent, woven with delicate notes of white flowers and honey. The palate follows suit, dry, powerful and deeply complex, with its core defined not by overt acidity, but by minerality and finely grained phenolic texture. This gives the wine a structural integrity and savoury elegance that stands out among modern New Zealand Chardonnays.

Already compelling, the 2022 Amped Chardonnay is delicious now but built to evolve, promising even greater nuance and harmony over the next decade.

    2012 Fiano, Chalmers

    £2200

The high acid, bold flavoured Campanian grape Fiano has really found it’s second home in Australia, especially in Heathcote where it regularly outshines the red grapes on the same site in a traditional red-wine growing region. The 2012 Chalmers Fiano is no exception, melding delicate stone fruits and almond blossom with savoury lees contact characters and minerality, displaying texture and power in the mouth whilst retaining a fine, fresh finish.

Chalmers Fiano is whole bunch pressed and fermented on solids, 10% in old French oak barriques, 90% in stainless steel tanks without yeast addition. The temperature of fermentation is limited to 15 degrees. After fermentation is finished the wine rests on lees in tank for 6 – 9 months before being bottled.  The Fiano is then aged in bottle for a further 24 months before release allowing the wine to develop in richness and texture.

This soil produces textured and concentrated wines which are balanced by cutting acidity, thanks to the soil’s high pH and cool temperature.
