2022 Muscadet Gras Moutons, Domaine la Haute Févrie

    £1950

This is a staff and customer favourite at Wine Republic.   Complex and full of texture, it opens in the glass with aromas of lemon and grapefruit which give way to delicious notes of olive brine, smoke and biscuit.   The palate is complex with an exquisite tangy fresh acidity and a beautiful minerality.

Domaine la Haut Fevrie is one of the leading producers in Muscadet Sever et Maine.  Melon de Bourgogne is a grape that expresses the nuances of the individual vineyards and Gras Moutons is one of these individual vineyard sites.

“I look to bottle up a pure expression of the marriage between vine, soil and the elements of geography and weather I have to work with. The region of Muscadet has its challenges but that only inspires me to make the very best wines I can, in a natural and environmentally friendly way.” – Sebastien Branger, Winemaker.

2022 Bacchus Single Estate, New Hall Wine Estate

    £1950

A rich and flavoursome quintessentially English Bacchus, displaying complex and aromatic notes of grapefruit, pear, peach, lime layered with herbaceous overtones of nettle and cut grass.

The Bacchus vines were planted between 1976 and 2018, on well-sheltered, southern facing slopes of the Crouch Valley. The big skies, low rainfall, coastal breezes and the influence of the Blackwater and Crouch Rivers come together to offer ideal climatic conditions. The area is protected from frosts which is beneficial in the capricious English climate. The vineyard is made up of London clay soils, from the Tertiary age, with chalk concealed below the clay deposits. The vines thrive in these warm soils; the clay offers high retention of nitrogen and the nutrient uptake from the clay soils is evident. The soils also provide good balance to the vigour of the vines. Over the years, this site has proven itself to be an ideal place for the growing of vines in England, producing above average crops of high quality grapes.

    2023 Petritis, Kyperounda Winery

    £1995

This wonderful 2019 Petritis from Kyperounda Winery in Cyprus is made from the Xynisteri grape variety, pronounced (Sin-ees-ter-ee), which is a native grape to the island.  These indigenous grapes are grown on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains, in some of the highest vineyards in Europe. The plots sit on rocky terraces, where the soils are made up of sandy clay. Due to the altitude of the vineyards, Kyperounda invariably harvests approximately one month later than vineyards at half their elevation and the long hang time results in concentrated flavours in the fruit, while preserving refreshing acidity.

In the glass, it has delicious aromas of citrus fruits, candied lime, lychee and a touch of spice and vanilla. It is a medium-bodied yet refreshing wine with a long, persistent finish. 20% of the wine was matured in new oak barrels for two months which has added a subtle oak complexity to the wine.  This will be a great match with white fish, lean meat and canapes/tapas.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2020-chardonnay-mulderbosch/">2020 Chardonnay, Mulderbosch</a>

    2020 Chardonnay, Mulderbosch

    £1995

Inviting aromas of white chocolate and toffee lead to notes of sweet vanilla fudge and sandalwood. Fresh and zesty on the palate, with pineapple sweetness and citrus zest enveloped by melt in the mouth viscosity and real depth of flavour through to a very long finish.

The Chardonnay grapes come from the estate vineyard in Stellenbosch. The vineyards benefit from being 14 kilometres from False Bay, where the strong maritime influence cools the vineyards in the hot, summer months, ensuring good levels of natural grape acidity in the final wine, central to the Mulderbosch style of fresh, balanced wines. The soil is made up of decomposed sandstone with some granitic conglomerate stones, known as ‘Koffieklip’. This iron-ferrite rich soil produces wines with more minerality and intensity.

2022 Soave Classico ‘Monte Fiorentine’, Ca’Rugate

    £1995

Ca’Rugate has been awarded the prestigious ‘Tre Bicchieri’ award rating from Gambero Rosso multiple times, making it one of the most awarded producers in the competition and has been hailed by the New York Times as one of the “Top Five producers of High-End Soave”.

Rich and golden in colour, a wonderful example of a Soave Classico, with the beautiful layering of exotic, tropical fruits and a touch of minerality. Full and rich in flavour, this is a structured wine with a fresh, mineral finish.

The fruit for this wine comes from the six-hectare Monte Fiorentine vineyard in Brognoligo di Monteforte d’Alpone. The volcanic origin of the land results in limestone and basalt characteristics, in which the Garganega grapes flourish.

2022 ‘Derringstone’ Pinot Meunier Blanc de Noirs, Simpsons Wine Estate

    £1995

Simpsons’ Wine Estate creates fine English wines, which reflect the exquisite characteristics of their iconic, chalk terroir in the North Downs of Kent.

Created from exclusively estate-grown and hand-picked Pinot Meunier grapes, this intriguing and truly unique ‘blanc de noirs’ was carefully vinified as a white wine. This is the third release of this wine.  It has a delicate rose gold hue and intriguing floral and orchard fruit aromas.  It displays sweet and savoury flavours of poached winter fruit with balsamic nuances and a luxuriously mouth-filling texture.

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

  • <a href="https://wine-republic.co.uk/product/2023-sauvignon-blanc-isabel-estate/">2023 Sauvignon Blanc, Isabel Estate</a>

    2023 Sauvignon Blanc, Isabel Estate

    £2100

Isabel Estate is located just outside of Renwick village in the Wairau Valley at the heart of Marlborough’s wine region. The site benefits from all the climate characteristics that make the Marlborough renowned including extended sunshine hours combined with a long, cool growing season.

The Isabel Estate Sauvignon Blanc is the epitome of New Zealand’s Marlborough wine region. Benefiting from the estate’s old vines and the soils on the southwestern corner of the estate, the Isabel Sauvignon Blanc drinks beautifully young but also develops intriguing characters with age. The majority of the juice is fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness and purity, with 5% fermented in 500-litre French oak barrels to add complexity and a textural mouthfeel to the wine.  A pure tropical fruit nose of passionfruit and gooseberry gives way to nuances of blackcurrant, grapefruit and underlying flinty aromas. The palate is concentrated and enticing, coupled with the classic Isabel “Old Vine” mineral tones, making this wine refreshing and traditional in style. A creamy mid-palate and balanced acidity gives the wine weight and length, and makes it a great accompaniment to fish dishes.
