2017 The Galvo Garage Cabernet Blend, d’Arenberg

The colour is quite rich, almost dark, suggesting a fuller-bodied flavour profile. The palate is elegant, yet sings with ripe fruits, and is extremely juicy with deep richness and structure. This mix of pure fruit combines with fine oak tannins that lead to a lovely fragrant dark chocolate, minerally dry finish.

BinD674 otherwise known as the 2017 HRB Riesling is made from fruit sourced from the Clare Valley and Tasmania. Brilliant water like colour with a slight tinge of green around the outskirts. Elevated lime juice and orange rind aromas interplay with citrusy talc like characters, green apple and steely mineral notes. Unfolding across the palate are intense lime and citrus flavours backed by a steely mineral infused core. Subtle orange rind and crunchy green apple elements are also apparent. Exceptional power, finishing dry with crisp mouth watering acidity and a long aftertaste.

2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, Campo Alle Comete

2017 Shiraz ‘Watervale Single Vineyard’, Jim Barry
£2250Add to BasketThis 2017 Shiraz comes from a single-vineyard sourced from the Florita vineyard in Watervale. The Shiraz block is planted on a gentle northwest facing slope that takes full advantage of Clare Valley climate.
It is an opulent wine with expressive aromas of rich, bright red fruits that are supported by classic Clare Valley spice. Beautifully structured with fine savoury tannins and terrific length of vibrant fruit on the palate. This is not your typical Clare Valley Shiraz! The opulent nature of the wine could be due to winemaking that saw one-third of the grapes being co-fermented with 15% of whole bunch fruit to impart complexity and an aromatic lift to the wine. The wine then went through malolactic fermentation (a process where tart malic acid in wine converts to softer, creamier lactic acid) before being transferred to oak barrels for 12 months of ageing.
A terrific mouthful of wine!

2017 Zero Manipulation ‘Tollini Vineyard’, Peterson Winery

Zero Manipulation is the winemaking philosophy that is employed on all Peterson wines, using the gentlest winemaking techniques possible to maximise flavours, aromas and the original essence of the grapes from the given vineyard and vintage.
The Tollini Vineyard is located in Mendocino County’s Redwood Valley and has been in the Tollini family for three generations; now in the hands of Alvin Tollini. The Zero Manipulation Blend is made up of predominantly Carignan, where the vines are traditionally head trained and dry farmed. The blocks were originally planted by Alvin Tollini’s father and grandfather and old-vine, low yielding Carignan remains from the original plantings and produces concentrated, flavoursome fruit. Alvin’s father added to the acreage after he returned from WWII. The Syrah and Grenache were planted by Alvin using the same time-honoured techniques and sustainable approach and they add layers of depth, complexity and balance to the blend. The vines are planted on southwest facing benches in the Redwood Valley and are cultivated with a meticulously sustainable approach.

It’s here with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop that winemaker & proprietor Samantha O’Keefe makes her fabulous wines. ‘ I had a farm in Africa….’ The opening line of Karen Blixen’s classic memoir Out Of Africa comes to mind when you hear Samantha’s amazing story. A native Californian, Berkeley educated, Sam realised her dream and bought a mountain in Africa. She then sold the bottom half to finance vine planting in the top half!
This 2017 barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc is a full-bodied, elegant and beautifully balanced wine. Floral notes of passionflower, fynbos (natural shrubland), combine with guava, gooseberry and pear on the palate along with an underlying minerality, imparting its signature style. A true expression of this unique terroir and its equally unique winemaker.
We love barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc at Wine Republic and this beauty is made in an “oxidative” style using old 500-litre barrels for 70% of the fermentation and maturation bringing forward richness, intense fruit and complexity. 30% of the wine is fermented and aged in 1500-litre concrete egg tanks to enhance the rich palate texture and minerality. In both the barrels and the eggs, extended less contact contribute further to the rounder mouthfeel and creaminess of this elegantly textured wine.

The estate covers 84.5 hectares of dry-farmed vineyards among the rolling hills of the Vino Nobile region of Tuscany. These vineyards are trained according to modern trellising methods with clones and rootstocks varying according to soil type. Planting densities here often exceed 8,500 plants per hectare, yielding wines of great concentration and finesse.

2018 Resalte Crianza ‘Origen’, Bodega Resalte De Penafiel

The grapes come from six villages in the Ribera del Duero, from vines with an average age of 30 years old. Each plot has a different soil structure which imparts complexity in the resulting wine. The vines are carefully tended throughout the year, with patience, specialised craftsmanship and manual work. Emphasis is placed on keeping the vine healthy, with winter pruning, bunch thinning and shoot thinning all taking place to capture the personality of the terroir. The grapes are hand-harvested at optimum maturity. They follow a philosophy of keeping yields low and strive to keep the soils healthy, which allows the grapes to fully express the characteristics of their terroir.

2017 Mercurey `Le Roc Blanc`, Chateau de Santenay

The palate has a lovely texture from the oak ageing, with concentrated flavours of white peach and vanilla balanced with racy acidity.
The fruit for the Mercurey ‘Le Roc Blanc’ comes from Chateau de Santenay’s 72 hectares of vines planted across the Mercurey appellation. The soils are rich in clay, with limestone still very evident alongside some areas of marl. These characteristics give the white wines of Mercurey a strong structure and a beautiful texture

2017 Semillon, Geyer Wine Co

Whilst much of the Barossa is ripping out old vines to replace with money-making, high yielding Shiraz, Dave Geyer is working with some of the great farmers of the area, devoted to preserving the old vines and varieties of the area. As Dave says, “once a century-old vine is gone, several generations must wait to see what it could produce again. This instant gratification is one of the downfalls of the industry. We work closely together to preserve this part of our history to ensure these vines stand the test of time and to produce some epic wines! “
Punchy fruit-driven nose, with pink grapefruit, lemon balm and moringa flowers. Textured, nutty palate with flavours of dried mango, tangerine, lemon sherberts and a firm, grippy finish. The end of the bottle might be a little cloudier, but don’t worry, it’s just due to the choice of producing wine without filtration or fining.
The Geyer Semillon is a blend of fruit from three different vineyards, each vinified in a way to best represent the site. Component 1 and 2 are sourced from two 90-100-year-old sites in the Barossa Valley, one which goes straight to stainless steel to best retain its vivid, fruit aromas, whilst the other, with more reductive, smokey aromas goes to old oak. The third site is a younger vineyard in the Eden Valley – and this portion spends two weeks on skins, with 50% whole bunches. All components were blended upon completion of fermentation and aged in a 1950’s fortified wine foudre for six months. This old wood infused with sherry and flor characters really twisted the Semillon in an amazing Jura-esque way – crack a bottle and see! Bottled without any addition of sulphur or fining/filtration.

2017 ‘Lu Veru Piaciri’, Al-Cantara

Nerello Mascalese “nair-rello mask-ah-lay-zay” is a light-bodied red wine that primarily grows on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. It produces fine light to medium-bodied red wines reminiscent of Pinot Noir.
Lu Veru Piaciri grapes are grown in a vineyard is situated at an elevation of approximately 620 metres above sea level, where warm days and cool nights encourage a long ripening period concentrating the flavours in the grapes while retaining balancing acidity. The vines are grown in volcanic soils, which are rich in minerals and fossils. The soil is permeable to air and water and is rich in pumice stone and microelements, which allow the plants to produce a complex aromatic profile. The espalier-trained vines are spur pruned. The 10 year old vineyard is cultivated following the principles of organic and biodynamic cultivation and is in conversion to organic status.

2017 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, Peterson Winery

The subtle berry and toasty oak aromas belie the delicious, mouth-coating flavours that follow. The luscious fruit is seamlessly balanced by the oak and restrained tannic structure, though to a long, seductive finish.
The Dry Creek blend, is a wine which reflects the overall Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel terroir, as opposed to a single-vineyard character. The grapes come from five carefully selected vineyards -Funsten, Bradford Mountain Estate, Bernier, Forchini, and the West vineyards, which are located throughout the appellation. Each vineyard has its distinctive soil type and microclimate, providing a cross-section of Dry Creek Valley typicity.

2017 ‘Superheroe’, Xosé Lois Sebio
£2795Add to BasketThe ‘Superheroe’ from Xosé Lois Sebio is a layered fragrant blend highlighting notes of violet, blackberry, redcurrant and plums, combined with subtle hints of black pepper and mineral tones. Elegant and expansive on the palate, offering concentrated fruit, fine tannins with a balancing freshness. The rich yet vibrant finish is wonderfully intense and long.
This wine is from the DO Ribeiro, which means ‘River Bank’ in Galician, as it is located along the Miño river and its tributaries, in Galicia, North West Spain. A blend of indigenous varieties, the vines range from 40 to 70 years old. These vines are low yielding and produce small, concentrated, flavoursome berries. Planted at an altitude of 150 to 350 metres above sea-level, the vines are free-standing and trained with a stake in the traditional manner, at a density of 1.25 x 1.25 metres. The soils are clay with schist, the latter imparting mineral tones to the wine. The 35% of ‘other grapes’ in the blend is a field blend of Ferrol, Souson, Brancellao, Bastardo, Caiño Longo, Caiño da Terra, Carabuñeira and Tinta Marela. The grapes are grown mixed together in the same parcel which was planted between 70 to 90 years ago in the traditional manner at the time. The grapes are manually harvested simultaneously with each variety offering a unique characteristic to the blend.

2020 Barolo ‘Patres’, San Silvestro

The name ‘Nebbiolo’ comes from one of two schools of thought: some believe as the harvest of Nebbiolo usually occurs in October, when foggy weather is common, it takes the name from ‘nebbia’ meaning ‘fog’; however, others believe the name is derived from the presence of ‘pruina’, a substance which gives the appearance of a foggy haze on the berry’s skin. The Nebbiolo vines are grown in the northern Italian region of Piedmont, where the climate is continental and is tempered by the Tanaro River and its tributaries. Grown in marl clay and sand soils, the late-ripening variety is usually harvested in early October.
