The Winemakers Reserve Black Shiraz is a multi-award winning wine and an outstanding example of Australian Shiraz with deep colour and aromas of blackberry and plum over toasty coffee and spicy oak. The palate is full-flavoured and intense with rich plum, blueberry and mocha notes. The tannins are ripe and dense imparting great structure and length to the palate.
Predominantly sourced from the vineyards in Padthaway, South Australia, where the soils are sandy loam over clay, formed on old lagoon sediments. These sandy soils lead to poor nutrient and water retention which helps to concentrate the flavours in the fruit. The vines are grown on single wire trellises, ensuring an open canopy. Drip irrigation is used in the vineyards to manage the water supply and reduce evaporation, as water is applied directly above the roots. The fruit was harvested during the cooler nights to retain freshness.

A cracking Merlot from Anthonij Rupert Wyne. Seductive dark berry compote with attractive spicy highlights on the nose. The grapes for the Piekenierskloof Grenache are handpicked, destemmed and crushed first thing the next morning to retain freshness. The fruit enjoys a cold soak for three days to aid extraction and is then partially fermented in old oak barrels for 10 months. Ripe cherry and wild strawberry on the nose and palate. This wine is bright and round and beautifully knitted with a fine minerality to the finish.

Vintage after vintage it oozes class. Seriously it’s that good! This vintage (like many before it) has an impressive array of awards including Gold and 95pts at the 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards and Gold at the 2020 Sommelier Wine Awards.
So what does it taste like: It opens with aromas of cassis, black cherry and toasty oak leading to a palate that is spicy, complex, full-bodied and so deliciously rich.
Made from the native Savatiano grape, this offers a complex and aromatic bouquet of ripe peach, quince, creamy vanilla and an intriguing hint of Turkish delight. Dry with perfectly balanced freshness, intense notes of grapefruit, pepper, ginger and wild mint lead to a long and spicy finish.

The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 250 to 320 metres elevation and during the autumn and winter months, cool air masses blow down from the mountains, carrying dew which refreshes the vineyard with crucial humidity. Cold winters, hot summers and long, dry autumns combine with long periods of sunshine to enable the grapes to reach excellent maturity and complexity. The Savatiano variety is suited to the hot, dry climate as it has excellent drought-resistant properties. The grapes for this wine come from old vines of 40 to 60 years, which are pruned according to the traditional Gobelet style and produce low yields of concentrated fruit.

The grapes come from the AOP Côtes de Roussillon, where the vineyards are located within a natural amphitheatre open to the Mediterranean Sea and are surrounded by mountain ranges. The climate is Mediterranean, strongly influenced by cooling coastal breezes combined with mountain-freshness from the foothills of the Pyrenees which balance the hot, arid summers. The vines are grown on the Roussillon plains where the soils are made up of alluvial marls with black schist, which imparts great aromatic complexity to the wines, characterised by notes of black fruits, garrigue and freshness. The vineyard is certified organic.

It is immediately evident in the glass that as much care goes into these wines as Mullineux’s Single Terroir Syrahs and Chenin Blancs.
The spicy perfumed nose has undertones of dark fruits. Each variety in the blend adds balance to the wine. Tinta Barocca brings tannin, Cinsault brings perfume, Carignan brings freshness, Grenache brings fruit character, and the Syrah ties it all together.
A blend of eight vineyard parcels, this wine is made from sustainably farmed fruit sourced from different parts of the Swartland. The vines are aged between 12 – 40 years. Two parcels of Syrah and one of Cinsault come from the stony shale and schist-based soils of Kasteelberg, which retain heat well and aid in the ripening of bold fruit. One parcel of dry-land, bush vine Syrah, one of Carignan, one of Grenache and a single parcel of gnarly, old, dry-farmed Tinta Barocca bush vines are all grown on the decomposed granite soil of the Paardeberg. This soil promotes the production of complex wines with lifted acidity. The final parcel is Mourvèdre grown on the rolling, iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury.
A classic rose petal colour, this elegant, dry rosé shows aromatic notes of grapefruit and delicate citrus hints, through to a refreshing palate of red berry fruits with a lifted finish.
The terroir in the vineyard is characterised by the ‘Galets’ or large pebbles that are remnants of Alpine glaciers that have been smoothed over millennia by the Rhône. These pebbles absorb and store the heat from the sun during the day and release it at night, encouraging the vines to ripen the grapes. The vines here have established a deep root system enabling them to draw the mineral elements they need to grow and providing a complexity of flavour to the resulting wine. The Mediterranean sunshine is vital to the maturation and phenolic ripeness of the grapes.
