The Field Street Shiraz is made from fruit sourced from vineyards that surround the estate’s Oliver Road home. In every sense, this wine is at the heart of the S.C. Pannell label. This wine is stripped back from the artifice of winemaking to express the purity and breadth of McLaren Vale Shiraz. On the nose there is a lovely purity of fruit, aromas of violets are coupled with the beautiful perfume of a punnet full of fresh berries. The palate is medium-bodied, velvety and plush, with lovely, earthy tannins and a lifted finish.

The homestead was situated close by Henschke’s Lenswood property in the heart of the South Mount Lofty Ranges. 2014 was an exceptional vintage with the wine displaying a fragrant and lifted bouquet of citrus blossom, citrus fruits, gooseberry and tropical fruits with notes of anise, white pepper and fresh tarragon. 2020 Butchers Cart Shiraz, St Hallett
£1950Add to BasketThe Butcher’s Cart harks back to a time when the Lindner family, founders of the great St Hallett’s estate, were family butchers and horse and cart was the norm to get about. Much has changed in the Barossa since then, but there is the same meticulous care now performed in the jewel-like vineyards and immaculate cellar. This fabulous dark, spicy Shiraz uses grapes from a selection of vineyards, all planted on the red-brown earth, which tends to produce a rich, generous wine. Each parcel is fermented separately, with a pump over six times a day to extract rich flavour and tannins. Ageing for 10 months in 20% new oak puts the finishing touches to this rich, unctuous red.
Aroma: Dark ripe blackberry and raspberry, with liquorice and nutmeg spice

2017 Museum Release Marsanne, Tahbilk
£1950Add to BasketEstablished in 1860, Tahbilk is a historic family-owned winery, renowned for its Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and of course their Marsanne! Marsanne is one of the world’s rarest grape varieties originating in the Northern Rhone & Hermitage regions of France it is grown in only 3 other countries, Australia, America & Switzerland. Tahbilk holds the largest and oldest single holding of the variety in the world.
In this 2017 vintage the complexity that comes with age, shines through with lifted honeysuckle and toasty notes on the nose. The rich and honeyed palate is brimming with lemon citrus fruits and finishes with a chalky, mineral freshness.
Tahbilk’s history with Marsanne is traced back to the 1860s with the sourcing of ‘White Hermitage’ cuttings from the ‘St Hubert’s’ Vineyard in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. The grape was Marsanne and although none of these plantings has survived, the Estate still produces Marsanne from plantings dating back to 1927.

2017/8 Shiraz, Tahbilk
£1950Add to BasketTahbilk Shiraz is sourced from nearly 30 hectares of vines planted at various times from the 1930s through the early 2000s. Made using traditional Tahbilk techniques; fermentation takes place in 150 + year old open vats, before maturation in French and American oak for 18 months before bottling. The resultant releases are noted as being fruit-driven wines of much flavour and substance, proven over the years to develop added character when cellared. Varietally expressive with ample plum and blackberry fruits, there is warm earth and spicy savouriness that immediately appeals with a backbone of fine, opulent tannins and a rich, persistent finish.
Tahbilk’s vineyards are grouped along the banks of the Goulburn River, a branch of it which flows through the estate. The vines are grown at around 134 metres elevation of gently undulating and flat terrain. The soils are sandy loam with ferric oxide content, which vary from very fine sand near the anabranch to denser loams on the plains. Tahbilk has Shiraz vineyards dating back from the 1860s to the 1990s. The oldest surviving block is the ‘1860 block’; planted on its own roots in sandy soils, which has made it impossible for phylloxera to colonise the vine roots.

There’s a touch of mid-palate sweetness, some mocha and black olive and the soft tannins are integrated seamlessly through the mid-palate. The subtle use of oak allows the rich dark fruit to take centre stage.

2017 The Dry Dam Riesling, d’Arenberg
£1995Add to Basket2017 is a great vintage for the Dry Dam Riesling, named after a neighbouring farmers dam that year after year was either dry or didn’t hold water! Teeming with white flowers and granny smith, backed by a lovely core of lemon and lime. The sweetness on the palate is tempered by a sustained seam of perfectly pitched acidity. A sherbet-like note is typical of classic Riesling years in McLaren Vale and is unmistakable in this wine. Not a hint of metallic hardness, the mouthfeel is so refined and balanced.
