  • 2020 Chenin Blanc, Ernst Gouws & CoWhite Wine

2020 Chenin Blanc, Ernst Gouws & Co

    £1250

Ernst Gouws, the jovial patriarch of the Gouws family and winemaker extraordinaire, firmly believes in the French philosophy that the quality of the wine is inextricably linked to the origin of the vineyards and its terroir. Grapes are therefore hand-harvested from site-specific vineyards around the town of Stellenbosch, which is world-famous for producing quality, fruit-driven wines.

This 2020 Chenin Blanc is a fabulous everyday wine.  Whiffs of paw-paw, granadilla, yellow- and green apples, and peaches dominate the aromatic spectrum. The crunchy acidity and slight textural mouthfeel combine with the vibrant tropical fruit characters to result in a fresh, more-ish, typical Stellenbosch style of Chenin Blanc. Lingering flavours of cling peach and pineapple on the finish.

Light and tasty, this is an ideal refreshing wine for those long al fresco lunches during the warm summer months! A perfect accompaniment to a wide array of vegetable dishes, salads and fresh seafood.

  • 2008 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise ‘Cuvée Les Trois Fonts’, Domaine de Coyeux – 375mlDessert Wine, Port & Dessert Wine

2008 Muscat de Beaumes de Venise ‘Cuvée Les Trois Fonts’, Domaine de Coyeux – 375ml

    £1250

A delicious sweet wine, with notes of lychee, candied apricot and pear, tropical pineapple complemented by honey undertones. Rich, smooth and sweet on the palate, beautifully balanced by freshness and elegance.

The vineyard provides naturally healthy conditions, due to its altitude, exposure to the sun and the microclimate of the vineyard and enables gentle methods of cultivation to be employed, in order to maintain a healthy vineyard. The vines are planted in alluvial, sandy soils. Excessive buds and leaves are removed in the spring to aerate the strains and increase the leaf’s surface area exposed to the sun. Debudding reduces the production of berries and concentrates the flavours and aromas in those remaining. The living soils, where microbial life creates organic soil enrichment, nourishes the vines.

  • 2020 Primitivo di Puglia, A ManoRed Wine

2020 Primitivo di Puglia, A Mano

    £1325

This wine is deep red in colour. On the nose, there are intense aromas of ripe dark fruit, especially blackberries and cherries, with spicy notes of cocoa, lavender and liquorice. On the palate, it is youthful and full-bodied, with a great concentration of ripe, rounded fruit. It is a very elegant, fresh and complex Primitivo.

The grapes for this wine come from vineyards in the heart of the Primitivo growing region, located in the low hills east of Taranto in Puglia. The region is an old sea bed, full of fossils of clams, oysters and urchins. The altitude is approximately 20 metres above sea level and annual rainfall is 35 centimetres. The climate is classically Mediterranean as Puglia is a peninsula between the Adriatic and the Ionian seas. The Primitivo vines are quite old; most are the original plantings after phylloxera and range from 70 to 100 years old. As with most vineyards planted at that time they are small bush vines called ‘alberello’ which are non-irrigated and low yielding. The average Primitivo vineyard is quite small, less than half a hectare and the best sites have a crumbly, dark reddish-brown soil that resembles instant coffee.
