  • 2021 ‘Mariana’ Red, Herdade do RocimRed Wine

2021 ‘Mariana’ Red, Herdade do Rocim

    £1375

This vibrant blend of native Portuguese grapes delivers exuberant aromas of red berries complimented by subtle spicy notes. Textured on the palate with silky tannins enveloping the fruit through to a long, delicious finish.

Herdade do Rocim is associated with the Sustainable Program of the Alentejo Viticulture. This wine is made from organically grown grapes; 70% of the vineyard is certified and the remaining 30% is in conversion. The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30-mile long east-west facing escarpment that rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location, it is one of the most temperate sub-regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights. The soils are of granitic and schistous origin. The water level in the soil is rich and superficial, nourishing the vines during the warm summers.

  • 2021 Sauvignon Blanc, Baleia WinesWhite Wine

    2021 Sauvignon Blanc, Baleia Wines

    £1375

Baleia is a place of whales and wonder, where wines are born from rocky limestone soil in a remote and unspoilt corner of the Cape South Coast. Here vines overcome fierce elements to create fruit with singular character and depth of flavour. Beyond evocative wine, Baleia is also about finding harmony between self, others and nature in pursuit of life’s perfect equilibrium.

This Sauvignon Blanc is lovely and juicy with tropical fruits such as passion fruit and lychee dancing on the palate with saline undertones from the mineral soil in which it is grown.

Making Sauvignon Blanc one is often faced with the temptation of making very upfront and unnuanced wines that lack a sense of place. Baleia has chosen to take the road less travelled by choosing texture and minerality from the site to portray the beauty of the terroir.

  • 2020 ‘Est-Ouest’ Côtes du Rhône, Domaine André BrunelRed Wine

2020 ‘Est-Ouest’ Côtes du Rhône, Domaine André Brunel

    £1395

This is a spicy, juicy Côtes du Rhône with exuberant ripe red fruit framed by a good structure, rounded tannins and a lovely balance. A delicious and approachable Rhône blend with an elegant finish.

The vines are grown in two plots located to the east and west of the Rhône (hence the name) and impart the complexity of the different Rhône terroirs. The complementary qualities from these two terroirs allow the 35-year-old Grenache vines to reveal all their potential: elegance and finesse come from the small yields of 35 hectolitres per hectare and clay-limestone subsoil of the Saint Geniès de Comolas terroir in the Gard, while the round pebbles and clay subsoil of the Travaillan in the Vaucluse impart structure and power to the blend.

  • 2020 Viognier, TahbilkWhite Wine

    2020 Viognier, Tahbilk

    £1395

This delicious Viognier from a dry vintage has an intense and fragrant nose of rose petal and ginger spice leading to a softly textured palate of apricot, peach and honeydew melon characters. All this lifted by a deliciously zesty acidity on the finish.

“Our 2020 Estate whites will be remembered for their lifted fruit intensity, with no better example than this Viognier release. Vivacious ginger, rose petal and citrus blossom aromas are a siren’s song temptation to a textural palate of stone fruit and honeysuckle characters.” – Alister Purbrick ~ Tahbilk Winemaker & CEO

Tahbilk’s relationship with the varietals that call France’s Rhone Valley home can be traced back to our earliest days with a good deal of fortuitous luck leading to the establishment of that connection rather than a grand plan looking ahead over 160 years!
Prior to taking possession of what would become the Tahbilk Estate, one of the directors placed an advertisement in the leading newspapers of Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide and Sydney for 1,000,000 vines. This resulted in the Tabilk Vineyard Company (as we were known then) receiving around 600,000 vine cuttings, among which was the white ‘Rhone’ varietal, Marsanne.
Marsanne being the solo ‘Rhone’ whites’ flag-waver for the Estate ended in 1990 with the successful planting of Viognier and Roussanne.
Marsanne will always be the undisputed leader of this trio, but there is no doubt that each of these two relatively new Estate ‘Rhone’s’ are showing that they have to have admirably embraced their adopted homeland.

  • Offer 2023 Watervale Riesling ’50th Anniversary Edition’, Jim Barry Wine Republic Heros White Wine

2023 Watervale Riesling ’50th Anniversary Edition’, Jim Barry

    £1395 13% saving

Riesling lovers rejoice! It’s time to celebrate – 70’s style- as Jim Barry Wines commemorates 50 consecutive vintages of their popular Watervale Riesling with a limited-edition label.

Located fifteen kilometres south of Clare township, the tiny village of Watervale is nestled in South Australia’s Clare Valley and is internationally renowned for the quality of its Rieslings.  Consistently awarded wine since its first release in 1974, the  Watervale Riesling is picked from select parcels of vines that achieve ripeness with naturally high acid levels

Mouthwatering aromas of lemon, grapefruit juice, lime and white flowers combine with a lick of mineral, wet slate. Refreshing and intense, the generosity of flavour shows all the hallmarks of Watervale Riesling, perfectly balanced by zesty acidity.

The Watervale Riesling grapes come from a special part of the famed Florita vineyard in Watervale, in the Clare Valley. The Mediterranean climate has a high diurnal temperature difference; the cool nights lead to the preservation of crisp natural acidity and delicate flavours. The vines are planted on south or east-facing slopes, which are best suited to Riesling as they are shielded from the hot northerly summer winds, instead they receive the cooler morning sun.

  • Offer 2023 Negroamaro Rosato, CanteleRed Wine

    2023 Negroamaro Rosato, Cantele

    £1395 13% saving

The village folk still call it Niuru Maru: Negroamaro, meaning bitter black (red).

In another era, Negroamaro was grown solely to ship to the north of Italy where the colder climate made it challenging to obtain the desired color and alcohol levels in the wines they produced. But in recent decades, more and more Salento wineries have looked to the variety as one of the most noble expressions of Pugliese viticulture.

FCantele’s rosé wines are made from a selection of top Negroamaro grapes that are used to make their flagship wines. Winemaker Gianni Cantele, to achieve their deep rose hue and their rich aroma and flavour, employs the Italian salasso method (known in English and French as saignée): as the Negroamaro grapes are macerating on their skins to extract the variety’s naturally dark colour, he racks off — in other words, he “bleeds” off (hence the name) — some of the must to another tank. After vinification, the resulting wine is aged and bottled as the Rosato di Negroamaro (rosé from Negroamaro).

This is an ideal wine for appetizers, pizza, fish and seafood, and simple first and second courses — especially vegetable-based recipes.
