White WineThe Marras Los Tros Chenin Blanc is made by Martin Lamprecht from grapes sourced from Swartland, a melting pot for hot new talent and South Africa’s leading region for liberal winemaking and experimentation.
This is a gorgeous drinkable pear and stone-fruited wine. The flavours are complemented by crisp freshness and a round mouthfeel with a refreshing finish. In a recent South African tasting held in our shop, this was one of the wines of the night.
Red WineThe wine is made from the native variety Nerello Mascalese, an historical Sicilian variety which is typical of the Etna area and is renowned for producing wines with an intense aromatic bouquet and a vibrant body.
This 2022 Nerello Mascalese ‘Lavi’ is warm, soft and fascinating. In the glass aromatic notes of rose petals are complemented by wild strawberry and raspberry. The palate is light-bodied, with soft, enveloping tannins through to a long, smooth finish.
This is a great wine for matching with cold cuts and cheese, red meat-based main courses, grilled veal, roast chicken and game.
White WineThis exceptional single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc has a complex nose of zesty grapefruit and lime is accompanied by hints of black pepper and delicate floral aromas, with herbaceous and mineral undertones. Harmoniously balanced on the palate with delicious acidity offering mouthwatering citrus and mineral tones through to a persistent finish.
The grapes are grown in the Lomas de Leyda vineyard, situated in the Leyda Valley. The climate is moderated by the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean and summer coastal fogs which last until midday. This effect extends the ripening period, ensuring slow ripening and the development of intense and very fresh flavours and aromas. Average rainfall in the Leyda Valley is 250 millimetres. The soil is finely textured and of low fertility. The upper layer is thin loamy clay, with a layer of cracked clay over decomposed granite, which has a varied mineral structure. The valley has gentle slopes with areas exposed to differing levels of sunlight exposure.
Red WineA beautiful crimson-purple, edging toward a purple hue. On the nose, we find tomato leaves, violets and red fruits. It’s medium-bodied with more of those red fruits, pomegranate, and rhubarb. A little on the ripe side, with some green edges. There’s some lovely, beautiful crisp acidity. A gloriously dry finish. Velvety tannins envelop the wine. Light easy-drinking in its youth. With time, this wine will become a showstopper.
The Name: During the vine pull scheme in the 1980s, d’Arry Osborn refused to remove his old grenache vineyards. Today d’Arenberg is the keeper of nearly one-third of McLaren Vale’s old bush vine grenache, earning the title of ‘Custodian’ of the variety.
Red WineCantele became a Salento Primitivo pioneer when it released this wine more than a decade ago. Made from 100% Primitivo grapes and vinified in stainless steel and then aged in oak for 6 months, this lithe expression of Puglia’s most famous grape offers aromas of black cherry, plum and spice. The palate is smooth and soft with delicious ripe raspberry and mulberry fruits, good acidity and well integrated tannins.
A favourite pairing for a juicy burger.
Red WineAn elegant wine bursting with fruity notes of Morello cherry and strawberry, layered with nuances of fresh herbs. Juicy pomegranate, strawberry and cherry notes envelop a smooth palate with gentle tannins, finely integrated oak and a deliciously long finish.
The grapes are grown in the Lomas de Leyda vineyard, situated in the Leyda Valley. The Pacific Ocean has a significant influence; the vineyard is just 13 kilometres in a direct line from the sea. During the ripening period the mornings are damp and windy, while the afternoons and evenings are cooled by the sea breezes resulting in moderate maximum temperatures. This helps to ensure the slow and gradual ripening of the grapes, encouraging the aromas and flavours in the fruit balanced by natural refreshing acidity.
White WineIn the glass, this wine has aromas of white peach, subtle passionfruit and a hint of apple blossom. On the palate, it is medium-bodied showing good intensity of stone fruits with fine texture, great length and a lovely clean finish. Great match to chicken with creamy mushroom sauce.
Red WineThe grapes for the Piekenierskloof Grenache are handpicked, destemmed and crushed first thing the next morning to retain freshness. The fruit enjoys a cold soak for three days to aid extraction and is then partially fermented in old oak barrels for 10 months. Ripe cherry and wild strawberry on the nose and palate. This wine is bright and round and beautifully knitted with a fine minerality to the finish.
White WineThis delicious Picpoul de Pinet has classic aromas of white flowers and stone fruit. The palate is crisp, refreshing and full of flavour with pear, lemon and pineapple fruits mingled with floral notes. Just the thing with fresh seafood or as an aperitif.
Red WineThis Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva from Perez Cruz is one of the most constantly excellent wines on planet earth and becomes a firm favourite of anyone who tries it. Vintage after vintage it oozes class. Seriously it’s that good! This vintage (like many before it) has an impressive array of awards including Gold and 95pts at the 2019 Decanter World Wine Awards and Gold at the 2020 Sommelier Wine Awards.
So what does it taste like: It opens with aromas of cassis, black cherry and toasty oak leading to a palate that is spicy, complex, full-bodied and so deliciously rich.
Red WineFloral violet notes are followed by an intense fruity expression of red plum, strawberry and blackberry. Full-bodied but smooth and balanced, with subtle minerality this is a classic expression of Argentinian Malbec. The wines names ‘1300’ is derived from the fact the grapes were grown in vineyards located at over 1,300 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by its wide diurnal temperature range, which produces grapes with a great intensity of colour and a distinctive aromatic expression.

Full-bodied and textured on the palate with rounded tannins, big fruit flavours and a spicy, persistent finish. The grapes were grown in vineyards located in the Uco Valley, at over 1,300 metres above sea level. The area is characterised by its wide diurnal temperature range, which produces grapes with a great intensity of colour and a distinctive aromatic expression.
White WineThis is a refined Chenin Blanc showing aromas of crisp green apples, white pear and delicate pineapple layered with subtle oak nuances. Rich and full, with a good depth of fruit and a refreshing feel to balance the rich and creamy palate.
The grapes were grown in unique sites from older vines that have an average age of 37 years. The grapes were hand-harvested and cooled overnight. Bunch sorting took place to ensure only the best grapes were vinified. Fermentation took place in a combination of vessels: 2,000-litre French oak foudres, seasoned barrels and stainless steel tanks. Each vessel resulted in a different expression of Chenin Blanc, imparting a layered dimension to the wine. The wine was aged for nine months on the lees in French oak, which contributed to the complexity and texture of the wine.

This delicious and refreshing homage to Alsace is made from grapes whose vineyards are located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. Characterised by the influence of the Southern Ocean, which provides breezes from the Antarctic, chilling the grapes and making it an ideal growing climate for Riesling and Gewürztraminer and Pinot Blanc – varietals that excel at these lower temperatures.
Riesling’s cool lime and minerality meshes with Gewurztraminer’s exotic spice and rose water. The softly textured palate has a long, refreshing acidity supported by citrus notes and rose petal on the finish.
The wine is called Stone’s Throw because the Riesling and Gewürztraminer are planted a stone’s throw from each other in the same vineyard.
