2022 Apertura Malbec, Mendel
£1795Add to BasketMendel’s Apertura Malbec comes from the estate’s own vineyards located in an exceptional terroir of Luján de Cuyo with a view of the Sierras de Lunlunta. This Malbec, sourced from a vineyard planted in 1928, is managed embracing the same philosophy as in the plots destined for the top wines of Mendel. During maturation in barrels, the team at Mendel select very fruity wines, lighter in body and structure, looking for a very friendly, fresh, and easy-drinking wine but at the same time with great volume and round tannins.
Mendel Winery embodies the union of Roberto de la Mota with a nearly century-old Argentine family, whose sole objective is to produce wine of unquestionable, superior quality. Proprietor and longtime wine lover, Anabelle Sielecki, diligently tracked down the very best talent Argentina had to offer when seeking Mendel’s winemaker, and with utmost charm and perseverance, brought Roberto de la Mota on board. Having worked for many years at the iconic Château Cheval Blanc in Saint-Émilion, Roberto de la Mota is one of Argentina’s most respected and experienced winemakers.

2019 Carignan, Olifantsberg
£1795Add to BasketA complex expression of Carignan with notes of cured meat, spice, bay leaves and aniseed leading to dried cranberry and pomegranate flavours. Fresh on entry, with vibrant tannins and an elegant finish.
The vineyard is located on the slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where it endures wide diurnal temperature differences and strong winds. The grapes for this wine are from 100% bush vines grown on soils with a high percentage of shale and quartz. This is the rockiest vineyard on the farm and is planted at 350 metres above sea level. The vines are densely planted and endure a very dry and tough micro climate due to the high amount of rocks in the soil. The combination of rocky soils and high density planting, results in competition between the vines and in turn deeper root systems. The deep root systems enable the vine to develop a good buffer during drought conditions. The rocky soils also add more stress, so the vines deliver very small berries with a concentrated fruit, good body and fresh acidity.
