Organically farmed from a tiny plot in Ukiah, Mendocino County, this is a light-coloured and medium-bodied wine with aromas of redcurrants, raspberries, and red cherries. Intense and concentrated in structure with flavours of ripe, dark raspberries, black liquorice, wild thyme and dry-aged beefsteak. Smooth, friendly texture sort of like a silky California Pinot Noir. We will serve this slightly chilled as it brings the best out of the grape variety. 48 cases produced!

2021 Rocim ‘Amphora’ White, Herdade do Rocim
£2650Add to BasketThis naturally vinified wine is golden in colour with a complex bouquet of smoky, spicy and herbal aromas enveloping the fruit. Grapefruit flavours are accompanied by a hint of tomato plant on the firm, dry and textured palate. Long and mineral finish with a touch of salinity.
Naturally vinified without any additions or must corrections. The fruit was carefully selected, vinifying only the highest quality berries. The grapes were fermented with natural indigenous yeasts in traditional clay amphora pots known as ‘Tahla’. The process took place without any intervention, including temperature control. Following fermentation the wine was aged for five months with skin contact which imparted complex aromatics to the wine. This may create a natural deposit in the bottle.

2022 Gavi di Gavi Rovereto, Michele Chiarlo

Rovereto is a small, but privileged sub-zone of Gavi recognised as one of the best microclimates for the production of the Cortese grape. The vines are grown in mostly calcareous clay-marl soils of volcanic origin, which are rich in iron and magnesium.

2019 ‘Occhi di Ciumi’, Al-Cantara

Made from a blend of Carricante and Grecanico. Carricante is an ancient white wine grape variety from eastern Sicily. It is thought to have been growing on the volcanic slopes of Mt Etna for at least a thousand years. Grecanico is one of the great varieties of white wine grape native to Italy, it is more commonly called Gargenega.
Occhi di Ciumi grapes are grown in a valley between the volcano and the Nebrodi Mountains, at approximately 620 metres above sea level. At this elevation, warm days and cool nights encourage a long ripening period concentrating the flavours in the grapes while retaining balancing acidity. The vines are grown in ash coloured volcanic soils, which are rich in minerals and fossils. The soil is permeable to air and water and is rich in pumice stone and microelements, which allow the plants to produce a complex aromatic profile. The 10 to 50 year old vines are cultivated following organic and biodynamic principles and the vineyard is in conversion to organic status.

2019 Frascati Superiore DOCG, Castel de Paolis
£2650Add to BasketThe undisputed champions of Frascati wine, the Santarelli family is almost single- handedly responsible for transforming Frascati into a Titan of the volcanic wine category. Their Frascati DOCG is a deserved winner of the Tre Bicchierri award and is truly one of Italy’s great white wines.
This is an intense and aromatic Frascati, with notes of juicy exotic fruits complemented by floral top notes. Refreshing yet textured with fruity flavours of apple and pear layered with hints of minerality, finishing on a delicious savoury note.
Made from a blend of local grape varieties, which flourish on the volcanic hills south of Rome. The vineyards were completely replanted during 1990 to 1992, at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare to limit vigour, thus concentrating the flavours in the grapes. The vines are planted at an elevation of 300 metres above sea level and are orientated towards the south-east to maximise sunlight exposure. The volcanic soils are layered with granular tuffs, which are rich in mineral elements producing elegant and fresh wines with a distinctive character.

2019 Chenin Blanc Single Vineyard Block W2, Mulderbosch
£2695Add to BasketThe 2019 Block W Chenin Blanc is mineral in profile, tightly wound in its youth, slowly maturing overtime to release delicate floral nuances, trimmed with a finely poised line of acidity. Textured with delicate spice from subtle oak ageing, this is a superlative example of Chenin Blanc with a saline finish.
The grapes come from the Single Vineyard Block W, which is located in the Rustenhof area of Stellenbosch. The soil is Cambrian Cape granite, a duplex soil with a marked textural contrast between the coarse sandy topsoil and the clay enriched subsoil. The clay subsoil, offers good water retention properties, which help to nourish the vines during the hot summers. The vineyard is situated just over 2.5 miles from the sea and vines are grown at an elevation of 65 to 70 metres. The sea breezes have a cooling influence on the vines, imbuing the grapes with a natural acidity that beautifully balances the ripe, concentrated flavours the grapes reach in this warm, sunny climate.

2021 ‘Painter of Light’ Chardonnay, Blackbook Winery

Grapes are sourced from the single Clay Hill Vineyard in Essex and harvested in mid-October.
This is an aromatic white wine with citrus, honeydew melon and stone fruits over hints of ginger and almond. Peach, zippy lime and a smoky, flinty finish make up a palate that’s both intense and refreshing. A real testament to quality English winemaking.

Starboard Batch 88, Quady
£2695Add to BasketBatch 88 is an easy drinking port-style wine with ripe fruit and nutty elements, that place it somewhere between a ruby port and a tawny port. It is warm, smooth and rich with a chocolate raisin character. Delightfully warming by itself, Batch 88 also pairs well with cheeses or with chocolates.
Why does Quady call its “port” Starboard?
Port is a geographic term for fortified wines that come from the Douro River Valley in Portugal. Starboard, the nautical term for right, (as opposed to port – left) is unique to our place, the San Joaquin Valley, California, on the other side of the world from Portugal.
Quady use the same grape varieties and similar methods as in the Douro, but their climate is warmer and the soils different. Instead of 140 proof fortifying brandy, they use a neutral grape spirit of 190 proof. 60 gallon barrels are used instead of the 140 gallon pipes used in Portugal. Starboard matures earlier and has a riper more voluptuous flavour.
The grapes in Batch 88 are primarily Tinta Roriz. The vineyard is managed to give loose bunches and a small crop. Several different vintages aged an average of five years are used in the blend. In the port business this type of blend is called “Vintage Character.” The first year this wine was made in this style was 1988, thus the nickname Batch 88.

2017 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, Peterson Winery

The subtle berry and toasty oak aromas belie the delicious, mouth-coating flavours that follow. The luscious fruit is seamlessly balanced by the oak and restrained tannic structure, though to a long, seductive finish.
The Dry Creek blend, is a wine which reflects the overall Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel terroir, as opposed to a single-vineyard character. The grapes come from five carefully selected vineyards -Funsten, Bradford Mountain Estate, Bernier, Forchini, and the West vineyards, which are located throughout the appellation. Each vineyard has its distinctive soil type and microclimate, providing a cross-section of Dry Creek Valley typicity.

2022 Malbec DOC De Sangre, Luigi Bosca

The winery is a family-owned business, founded for the Arizu family in 1901 that has been producing high-quality wines for generations. This Malbec was one of the first Argentine wines with a Designation of Origin.

It is refreshing and voluptuous in the mouth, with fine and gentle tannins, while it is clean and expressive in the palate, with a strong character, typicity and a deep finish with soft smoked hues as a result of its ageing in oak barrels. It is a great exponent of the variety and the terroir, with good ageing potential.
