2020 Chardonnay ‘Clonal Selection’, Kershaw
£4950Add to BasketAn exceptional Chardonnay from the amazing cool-climate region of Elgin. Restrained, mineral style focussed on elegance with a white fruit character, some oatmeal and some complexity gained from percipient applied wood. Only 15982 bottles and 70 Magnums.
The grapes come from eight to 10 small parcels of vineyards in several locations in the Elgin Valley. Elgin is the coolest wine region in South Africa and is situated on an inland, hexagonal-shaped plateau, at an altitude of 300 metres. The region is surrounded by mountains and lies just over six miles from the Atlantic Ocean, which brings occasional sea-borne mists. February is the hottest month of the year, with daytime temperatures peaking at 23°C and night-time temperatures dipping to 14°C. The benefit of this cooler climate is that the grape cluster stays connected to its roots for longer, so it develops complex characteristics and achieves physiological ripeness more gradually, resulting in lower sugar levels and consequently lower alcohol levels.

2021 Rosso di Montalcino ‘Ignaccio’, Il Marroneto
£4950Add to BasketIl Marroneto produce some of the purest and most perfumed expressions of Sangiovese made anywhere. Part of the secret lies in their prime location within Brunello’s traditional top class territory, situated at 450m above sea level with a cool northern exposure. Combined with the much lauded talents of gifted winemaker Alessandro Mori, and it’s clear to see why Il Marroneto are so highly coveted by Montalcino fans worldwide.
Alessandro Mori has always adopted a traditional approach, aiming for elegance and purity, without sacrificing depth or impact in his wines. Organic practices have been used in the vineyards since 1988, while natural fermentation occurs and there is neither fining nor filtration before bottling.
Both the Brunello and the Rosso start their life back at the winery as Brunellos, but during their maturation journey, Alessandro will make the decision to ‘declassify’ several bottis, resulting in a small release of Rosso di Montalcino. Prior to fermentation, the grapes spend around 2 days in steel with regular stirring followed by a slow fermentation and maceration for 3 weeks. The fruit is moved into large Slavonian and French Botti for 24 months then racked off and left to settle in steel for a brief period before bottling and release into the market.

2019 Bandol Rouge, Domaine de Terrebrune
£4975Add to BasketThe 2019 Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rouge is a distinguished expression of Provence’s Bandol appellation, crafted by the Delille family, who have been stewards of this estate since 1963. Situated in Ollioules, just east of Bandol, the estate benefits from a unique terroir overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, where the combination of sea breezes and Triassic era soils imparts a distinctive character to the wines. Under the guidance of Reynald Delille, the estate has embraced organic farming practices, emphasising a philosophy of “Philosophy, Rigour, and Respect” in their winemaking approach.
In its youth, the 2019 Bandol Rouge exhibits a deep, opulent bouquet dominated by black fruits and liquorice, complemented by notes of spices and garrigue. On the palate, it presents a powerful yet harmonious profile, with chewy tannins providing structure to the ripe fruit flavours. The wine’s complexity and balance suggest significant ageing potential, with a recommended drinking window extending through 2034.
The 2019 Rouge comes from a 30-hectare vineyard on the terraced slopes of the Gros Cerveau mountain. The soils are composed of limestone pebbles in brown clay, a composition that inspired the estate’s name, “Terrebrune.” This Triassic-era soil structure, combined with the cooling influence of the nearby Mediterranean, allows for slow grape ripening, preserving acidity and enhancing the mineral complexity of the wines.
