  • 2020 Little Yering Shiraz, Yering Station Red Wine

2020 Little Yering Shiraz, Yering Station

    £1695

A juicy, fruity and cool-climate Shiraz, with spicy plum and blackberry fruit layered with a touch of violet and white pepper on the soft, lush palate.

Situated just 45 kilometres east of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley is a large and diverse cool-climate wine region. Its elevation spectacularly ranges from lows of 50m to heights of 1,250m, due to the influence of the Great Dividing Range. The region is characterised by significant rainfall during winter and spring, which helps to nourish the vines throughout the dry, but cool summers. The estate-grown Shiraz vines are 20- years- old and are planted in vineyards in Yarra Glen, Yering and Coldstream. An additional portion comes from Heathcote to help build a lovely chocolate complexity to the fruit.

    2022 Valpolicella ‘Rio Albo’, Ca’Rugate

    £1700

Ca’Rugate has been awarded the prestigious ‘Tre Bicchieri’ award rating from Gambero Rosso multiple times, making it one of the most awarded producers in the competition and has been hailed by the New York Times as one of the “Top Five producers of High-End Soave”.

This 2022 Valpolicella ‘Rio Albo’ has concentrated aromas of red fruits, ripe blackberry and deep cherry flavours, with floral notes and a hint of spice. Supple on the palate with a velvety texture.

To make this wine the best grapes selected from Ca’ Rugate’s vineyards in the hilly area of Montecchia di Crosara and are harvested at the beginning of October. The vines yield 110 quintals per hectare and are grown in soils made up of limestone and gravel with pebbles, which impart elegance and provide excellent drainage for the vines.  Each variety was vinified separately. The grapes were fermented on their skins for a period of seven to 10 days, releasing the flavours and extracting the colour during the process. The wine was blended and then matured in stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the integrity of the primary aromas and varietal characteristics of the blend.

  • 2017 Pinot Noir, Ernst Gouws & Co Red Wine

2017 Pinot Noir, Ernst Gouws & Co

    £1700

Ernst Gouws, the jovial patriarch of the Gouws family and winemaker extraordinaire, firmly believes in the French philosophy that the quality of the wine is inextricably linked to the origin of the vineyards and its terroir. Grapes are therefore hand-harvested from site-specific vineyards around the town of Stellenbosch, which is world-famous for producing quality, fruit-driven wines.

The grapes for this 2017 Pinot Noir are grown on the West Coast, just three miles from the sea, where the vineyard overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The revitalising sea-breezes create balancing freshness in the grapes, which is showcased in this beautifully composed Pinot Noir.

The translucent ruby colour of this wine is typical of the variety. Subtle aromas of fresh raspberries, cherries and tilled earth combine with a hint of baking spice. The palate is elegant, with a delicate and silky tannin structure.  The wine is beautifully balanced with lingering flavours of tobacco and wild mushrooms on the finish.

The delicate nature of this wine is a perfect match for smoked trout or salmon. It will also pair well with charcuterie, ham and other cold meats served with patés and terrines.
