An intensely fragrant wine, where aromas of tropical blackcurrant bud and passionfruit are complemented by delicate notes of green nettle. Rich and beautifully balanced on the palate with vibrant flavours of passionfruit and melon and an underlying mineral note leading to a long, lingering finish.
Drinking beautifully now and will be at its best over the next three to five years.
White WineThis is one of the best Viogniers made outside the Northern Rhone. Barrel fermented in new French oak and aged on its lees, this is a fresh, concentrated, aromatic wine, bursting with complex flavours of peach, orange, lemon jasmine, herbs and pepper.
White WineA textured and richly flavoured Sancerre with intense herbaceous, gooseberry and citrus aromas, beautifully balanced by a vibrant and refreshing crisp palate.
The Sancerre appellation in Central France surrounds the eponymous town, which sits atop a hill overlooking the River Loire. The grapes for this cuvée are grown in vineyards which are located on these hilly slopes and are planted across the three main soil types of Sancerre. Les Caillottes, which is made up of a high proportion of stony fragments of coarse Kimmeridgian limestone upon a clay subsoil and the wines from these soils impart aromatic structure and freshness; Les Terres Blanches which are made up of Kimmeridgian marl and is extremely rich in fossilised shellfish and has the distinctive characteristic of turning white when it dries, hence its local name, which translates as ‘white earth’. These wines from this soil offer complexity, opulence and great aromatic finesse. Finally the flinty Silex soils which impart minerality; all three soils types have the common thread of a high proportion of clay.
White Wine‘Pietracalda’ is Feudi di San Gregorio’s finest Fiano Di Avellino and is made from their finest Fiano grapes. Aromas of exotic fruits are enhanced by spicy undertones. Notes of fresh flowers, such as chamomile, freshly picked stoned fruits and candied citron are balanced by a crisp palate, with a lovely creamy texture and distinct minerality on the finish.
The beautiful Feudi di San Gregorio vineyards are spread out over lush and gentle hills in Sorbo Serpico, approximately an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The soils are volcanic, sandstone and marl. Each vineyard is closely monitored with a meteorological station and combined with the technologies of the new state-of-the-art wine cellar; they ensure that each vintage comes as close to perfection as possible. The soil in the vineyards is predominantly volcanic, which imparts the distinctive minerality to the resulting wine.

This Viognier is a reflection of Samantha’s obsession with how the special soil, climate and a mysterious sense of place come together to produce an extraordinary wine that tells you its story. The vines are grown on rose-quartz soils in Elgin, which is a cool, high altitude plateau. The region offers a lengthened ripening period which brings the grapes late into the season, often three to four weeks later than traditional wine-growing areas in South Africa. This provides the opportunity to develop deep complexity and concentration.
In the glass, the 2021 Age of Grace Viognier is an expressive wine that seduces you with beautiful perfumes of honeysuckle and orange blossom and a textured palate of apricot, kiwi and pineapple. Red WineWhile Cantele’s approach to grape growing and winemaking is rooted in the traditions of Salento viticulture, it doesn’t mean that the current generation of the Cantele family doesn’t continue to experiment and push the boundaries of southern Italian winemaking.
One of its most critically acclaimed projects has been AMATIVO, a wine made from a blend of two of Puglia’s most important red grape varieties: Negroamaro and Primitivo. And the name of the wine, like the blend, is a composite of the grapes that go into it: AMA from the amaro in Negroamaro and TIVO from Primitivo.
An “international-style” wine created by blending two native grapes from Puglia, the flavour profile of this cuvée gets its earthiness from the Negroamaro and its rich fruit character from the Primitivo. While the Negroamaro imparts freshness and just the right amount of tannic structure, the Primitivo gives the wine balance through its rich red fruit flavour.
Red WineThe Reserve wines from Saint Clair represent the estate’s pinnacle wines – the best of the best. This 2019 has concentrated flavours of black cherry, blackcurrant, Kalamata olive, and perfumed wildflowers, that lead to an elegant palate with a structure reminiscent of finely powdered cocoa. The finish is long incorporating freshly roasted coffee beans, toasty oak and spice.
Ageing potential: This wine is drinking beautifully now or with careful cellaring will mature into a more complex wine that can be enjoyed for the next 8 to 10 years or beyond.
This vineyard site has been the foundation for some of Saint Clair’s finest wines. This is the vineyard where Saint Clair Family Estate first discovered the fruit to make their flagship Saint Clair Wairau Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit is sourced from a single vineyard in the lower Wairau Valley. The Block One site was previously part of the Wairau flood plain and is renowned for its deep, highly fertile, free-draining soils, which have been built up over time and help to produce the intensity of flavour in the resulting wine. The vineyard has a flat profile and is situated approximately three metres above sea level. It is now protected from flooding by a stopbank. Located in a slightly cooler site than the majority of the Marlborough Valley, the vines have a slower annual ripening period. The fruit is carefully monitored during the ripening stage and is harvested during the cooler evenings, at maximum flavour maturity and physiological ripeness.
Red WineIn the glass this wine is deep ruby with crimson hues. Fragrant, floral aromas of violets over spicy blackberry, raspberry and blueberry, with underlying spice notes of anise and black pepper, with sage, bay leaf and cedar. The palate is spicy, juicy and concentrated with ripe blueberry and freshly cut strawberry and plum creating layers of flavour with bright acidity and complexity from long, fine, savoury tannins.
This blend is a tribute to Henry Evans, who planted the first vineyard of seven acres at Keyneton in 1853. The blend highlights the historical introduction of southern French and Spanish varieties to South Australia in those early pioneering days and reflects the history, religion and culture of the Barossa.The fruit for this blend is sourced from selected growers in Eden Valley and Barossa Valley, with whom Stephen and Prue have been dealing for decades.
Red WineThis is an intensely aromatic Bordeaux blend with notes of fresh plum layered with sweet roasted cocoa, tobacco and characteristic Bolgheri balsamic notes. Silky and smooth on the palate with a fresh finish.
The Campo alle Comete winery is located at the foot of the Castagneto Carducci hill in Bolgheri. The oldest vines are planted around the cellar surrounded by the Mediterranean bushland. The proximity of the sea with its constant refreshing breezes plays an important role in the vine’s growth and for the maturation of the fruit, where the fresh breezes impart natural balancing acidity to the sun-ripened fruit.
Red WineFruit for Paringa Estate’s Peninsula Pinot is sourced from their own vineyards in Red Hill and from a few other carefully selected vineyards around the Peninsula.
In the glass, it has perfumed aromatics of violets, ripe cherries and plum which are trailed by some anise, fresh herb and spice notes. Delicious cherry and plum fruits inundate the mouth, underpinned by subtle anise, light forest floor and spicy fresh herb infusions. Supple mid-palate feel with velvety tannins, finishing with a lick of bright acidity. Excellent power wave with a long moreish aftertaste. Drink over the next 4-5 years – will keep a lot longer if you avoid the temptation!
White WineBruno Giacosa is considered to be one of Piedmont’s most highly regarded producers, their wines are some of the most highly sought-after in the world. Sadly the great man passed away in 2018 but since 2011 winemaking has been overseen by his protegé Dante Scaglione, together with his daughter Bruna Giacosa.
This perfect everyday drinking wine from a magnificent vintage is made from Arneis, the noblest white grape of Piemonte, which means ‘rascal’ in the local dialect. Grown in the sandy soils of the Roero it lives up to its name with its playful and lively charm.
The sand of the Roero region gives elegance and minerality to this wine, while the aromas lean towards exotic fruit, confit citrus notes and white flowers. Crisp and refreshing – a delicious Arneis from a master of the variety.
White WinePinot Grigio favours cooler climates and finds its ideal habitat on hillsides. Livio Felluga’s vinification techniques give this wine finesse and elegance while preserving the faint coppery highlights that are Pinot Grigio’s hallmark.
In the glass this wine is a straw yellow in colour with light golden hues. Intense yet elegant aromas of melon and candied fruit are complemented by stone fruit and floral notes, with a delicate mixture of brioche, honey and flint. Fresh and smooth on the palate, this persistent Pinot Grigio has great balance and a refreshing, mineral finish.
The quality of the Felluga range is in large part due to the fact that the fruit is grown on their 200 hectare property, which includes some of the finest vineyards in Friuli. The fruit for this wine come from their vineyards in the Colli Orientali DOC zone. Vines are planted on hillsides and the soil is marl and sandstone flysch of Eocene origin.
White WineJim Barry’s iconic and outstanding single-vineyard Riesling, The Florita, stands tall at the top of the tree for Clare Valley Riesling.
Located fifteen kilometres south of Clare township in the tiny village of Watervale, Florita – Spanish for ‘little flower’ – comes from a famous Riesling vineyard planted to Palamino in 1946 for making Fino Sherry but was replanted to Riesling in 1962. This was the birthplace of Leo Buring Watervale Riesling and the Florita vineyards, where legendary winemaker John Vickery sourced his grapes for his great Watervale Rieslings of the 1960s and 1970s.
The 80-acre vineyard was bought by Mark, Peter and John Barry in 1986. First released as the ‘Florita Riesling’ in 2004 by Jim Barry Wines, this micro-batch Riesling is made from grapes hand-selected from individual rows. Its best fruit comes from vines planted in shallow loamy soils and the vineyard has good air-drainage which alleviates the risk of frost. A wine with a reputation second to none for consistency and a true benchmark wine.
The 2021 is a simply astonishing incarnation that Riesling lovers would be remiss to not have in their cellar. Drink 2027 – 2050 +
White WineThis is probably the best Assyrtiko made in Greece and therefore anywhere! A highly complex, aromatic nose and funky nose, with citrus notes combining with floral hints from the acacia wood, vanilla, toasty oak and a touch of smoke. The layers of wild ferment envelop this precise and dry wine which has a mineral and salty complexity to the tangy finish. This is a truly unique wine.
The Assyrtiko vineyard is located in Santorini and the terroir is recognised worldwide for its tremendous historical roots, as the vineyards in this area date back 3,000 years. The low-yielding, 80-year-old, self rooted vines are grown in soils that are poor in organic matter. The high sand content has ensured they have never been affected by phylloxera. The soils are also volcanic: porous with a high mineral content, which imparts the mineral quality to the wine. The long sunshine hours, lack of rainfall, sea mists and strong summer winds all contribute to the unique microclimate. The surrounding Aegean Sea acts as a “climatic buffer” that softens the climate, so the extreme conditions are reduced. The vines are trained on traditional basket-shaped systems called “kouloura”.
