2015 Côte-Rôtie, Blonde du Seigneur, Georges Vernay

    £6800

Although Domaine Georges Vernay has built its reputation around its excellent Condrieu white wines, its reds should not be neglected, especially ones from the Côte-Rôtie. From a 5 ha plot of vines, Vernay’s Côte-Rôtie is amongst the most exceptional wines from the same appellation. Thanks to a perfectly mastered elegant wine style, Christine Vernay successfully expresses the elegance and depth of syrah; never over maturing or over ageing.

This Côte blonde-style Côte-Rôtie with 5% Viognier, is the perfect blend of intensity and delicacy. Dark in colour with a mineral smoky nose with dark fruits, black olive and pepper all enhanced by a floral component brought by the Viognier. This is a highly aromatic and elegant wine. With well-constructed but perfectly smooth tannins, this Côte-Rôtie is well-rounded on the palate with a beautiful long finish. Smooth and sensual, it expresses an immediate pleasure

Côte Rôtie is a prestigious red wine appellation at the northern tip of the Rhône Valley wine region, where the vineyards are situated on steep slopes – the Côtes. 2016 has been hailed as one of the great vintages and only 1200 cases were made in 2016 of the Blonde du Seigneur, so demand is high.   In the glass this 2016 vintage is a dark deep wine offering a mineral nose with notes of smoke, black fruit, black olive, and pepper – always enhanced by a floral component. 2015 Château Batailley 5ème Cru Classé

    £7750

Château Batailley is one of the oldest Estates in Pauillac. Its name goes back to the last battle of the Hundred Years’ war in Medoc, which took place on the plateau that descends to Château Latour.

A beautifully smooth and elegant wine showing classic notes of cedar, sweet blackcurrant, raspberry coulis and fruitcake with smoky nuances of tobacco and liquorice. Abundant sweet tannins and a good full-bodied structure surround the depth and complexity of flavours through to a long, harmonious finish.

  • 2015 Les Aromes de Pavie, Chateau PavieRed Wine

2015 Les Aromes de Pavie, Chateau Pavie

    £8500

Les Aromes de Pavie is the second wine of Château Pavie and is made in the Pavie mould of impact and power – the iron fist around a distinctly rich velvet glove approach.

It’s an excellent quality Saint Emilion Grand Cru and we particularly like and agree with Robert Parkers tasting note: ‘the 2015 Arômes de Pavie reveals a beguiling nose of smoked meats, fragrant earth and sautéed herbs over a core of warm red and black plums, cherry compote and blackberry pie plus a waft of dried lavender. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals very fine and ripe yet wonderfully firm tannins plus a seamless backbone of freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long with wonderful restraint and elegance.’

    Enjoy!

  • 2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont, Domaine Jacques PrieurcrasRed Wine

2007 Beaune 1er Cru Champs Pimont, Domaine Jacques Prieurcras

    £9500

At full maturity and drinking beautifully.  Beguiling, rich and stays in the palate for an age.  The grapes for this wine come from a large plot with the evocative name of “Les Champs au pied du Mont” (“The Fields at the Foot of the Mountain”), located on the slope overlooking the outskirts of Beaune. This vineyard, facing due east, produces both red and white wine. The Pinot Noir grapes in the lower part benefit from a very clayey soil that produces deeply-coloured, powerful wines. The high iron content in the soil often accounts for aromas reminiscent of soot or smoke.

  • 2019 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot, Domaine Marc Morey Wine Republic Heros White Wine

2019 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot, Domaine Marc Morey

    £9500

Domaine Marc Morey is one of our favourite producers and we think winemaker Sabine Mollard, Marc Morey’s granddaughter, is something rather special.

This 2019 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Virondot opens in the glass with a very full, very intense nose, ripe fruit,  refined and mineral, with a hint of butter, vanilla and well-integrated wood nuances. Full and quite powerful on the tongue, broad, complex and mineral, perfect balance, long and mouth-filling finish with pure minerality, all well wrapped in elegant wood nuances. AMAZING!

Marc Morey is the only domaine that farms and bottles the 2.1 hectares premier cru ‘En Virondot’. The vineyard is at one of the highest elevations in the Chassagne-Montrachet at 350 meters lying just west of some notable premier cru vineyards; Les Caillerets, Les Fairendes, and Les Champ Gains. Beneath the shallow topsoil, the vineyard sits on a bed of calcareous (chalk) soil that imparts a specific minerality and texture to the wines. Sabine Mollard, owner, and winemaker says this vineyard has the greatest ageing potential of all her premier cru bottlings.

2015 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques, Domaine Pierre Naigeon

    £9750

Another blockbuster of a wine from Domaine Pierre Naigeon.  This is a wine of great complexity, finesse and power that brings notes of black cherry and blackberry to the fore with delicate mineral undertones. Silky, with supple tannins and wonderful freshness.

The 1er Cru vines are grown in a small parcel in the middle of the Gevrey Chambertin appellation, by the hill of the ‘Combe de Lavaux’. It is a sunny plot with a southeastern exposure that receives cooling breezes, which flow from the bottom of the valley. The soil is complex, ranging from limestone from Dijon to decarbonated silt. The vineyard is cultivated organically, without the use of herbicides and insecticides and will be certified from the 2019 vintage.
