Red WineOpulent, “Worthy of a grand cru”, according to the Hachette Guide, this pure Merlot is aged in new barrels, a glass of rich, powerful wine with a beautiful balance between roasted aromas and intense black fruit flavours. With velvety tannins and well-integrated oak, the dark berry flavours are complemented by hints of cigar box and a smooth, elegant finish.
2016 has been lauded as an excellent and classic vintage in Bordeaux and this wine certainly lives up to the hype.
White WineDomaine Gauby is located close to the small town of Calce in the Roussillon. Now run by Gérard Gauby, his wife Ghislaine and their son Lionel, who is responsible for the winemaking, the domaine has gained a reputation for making wines of exemplary freshness in a hot climate.
This 2020 `Calcinaires` Blanc has a fresh nose with delicate aromas of white flowers and notes of peach and quince. The palate is expressive with layers of citrus and stone fruit. A bright acidity is underpinned by a long mineral finish.
This blend of 40% Grenache Blanc, 30% Chardonnay, 20% Macabeu, and 10% Vermentino is sourced from a mixture of old and young vines planted on clay loam and limestone. The Chardonnay vines are average 45 years old and the Macabeu 80 years old, which gives the grapes great concentration. The Roussillon has incredibly diverse soils which, combined with the multiple aspects from the rolling hills, has given Gérard Gauby the freedom to experiment and maximise the potential of each grape variety.
White WineDomaine Jean Goulley was formed in 1986 by Jean Goulley and is now run by his granddaughter Maud. The Domaine is well regarded for their mineral style of Chablis’s that have a purity and vivacity that pays homage to the Chablis of the past.
In the glass, this 2019 Petit Chablis is vivacious with aromas of peach, apricot and ripe nectarine. The palate is crisp and mineral with the aromas translating to the palate flavour. The finish is the typical of the Goulley style – mouthwatering.
Maud and her family believe in the ethos of organic farming along with that of minimal intervention; all of their vineyards are farmed organically. The vineyard is situated on the left bank of the River Sereine, where the vines are planted with an easterly orientation at an average altitude of 210 metres. The double Guyot trained vines are between 25 to 30 years old and are grown in Kimmeridgian soils, which are rich in clay and limestone with fossilised seashells. There is also the presence of Cailloux, large pebbles which help to promote ripening by absorbing the heat of the day and then radiating it at night. The vines are planted to a density of 5,700 vines per hectare and yields are kept to a maximum of 60 hectolitres per hectare. At Domaine Jean Goulley, they believe in highlighting terroir and produce their wines in an unoaked style, allowing them to reveal the purity, minerality and vitality of the soil.

2020 is a very fine vintage which is not easy to compare to other years. Although the grapes ripened very early in the year, the dry weather and absence of heat spikes meant that grape quality and health was exceptional. It has been described as ‘a very classic vintage’ and very different from 2018 and 2019. Many producers have described it as the best since 2014!
In the glass, this 2020 Petit Chablis is clean, fresh and appealing, with ripe crunchy green apple fruit and crisp acid keeping everything vibrant. An early drinking Petit Chablis that will give a lot of pleasure over the next 3-5 years.

White WineA textured and richly flavoured Sancerre with intense herbaceous, gooseberry and citrus aromas, beautifully balanced by a vibrant and refreshing crisp palate.
The Sancerre appellation in Central France surrounds the eponymous town, which sits atop a hill overlooking the River Loire. The grapes for this cuvée are grown in vineyards which are located on these hilly slopes and are planted across the three main soil types of Sancerre. Les Caillottes, which is made up of a high proportion of stony fragments of coarse Kimmeridgian limestone upon a clay subsoil and the wines from these soils impart aromatic structure and freshness; Les Terres Blanches which are made up of Kimmeridgian marl and is extremely rich in fossilised shellfish and has the distinctive characteristic of turning white when it dries, hence its local name, which translates as ‘white earth’. These wines from this soil offer complexity, opulence and great aromatic finesse. Finally the flinty Silex soils which impart minerality; all three soils types have the common thread of a high proportion of clay.
Red WineA traditional and deeply coloured Bordeaux, with a delicate, elegant bouquet of blackcurrant and tobacco through to a smooth, silky palate with a touch of raspberry on the finish. This second wine of Château Cantemerle comes mainly from the Château’s young vines and is produced in the same way as its elder brother. Les Allées de Cantemerle has the same great personality as the Grand Vin, but is ready to drink earlier.
Situated in the Haut-Médoc, the Château de Cantermerle vineyard covers 91 hectares of vines. The soils are silica-gravel, which are a result of a thousand-year-old erosion of the Pyrenees by the River Garonne and form one of the fundamental elements of this quality vineyard. The soils are poor in nutrients, so the vines ‘struggle’, resulting in grapes with a high concentration of flavour. In addition, the small pebbles in the soil provide a filter and contribute to the grape’s maturity by reflecting the sun’s rays during the day and retaining the heat during the cooler nights. The vines have an average age of 30 years.
An excellent example of white St Joseph from the Northern Rhône; this is very aromatic, with floral notes combining with ripe peach and a touch of brioche on the nose. Richly textured, but beautifully balanced on the palate with a refreshing finesse on the finish.

His 2022 Chablis shows all the hallmarks of classic Chablis, with lively citrus fruits layered with mineral overtones. Crisp, and bone dry with a lovely supple texture through to a bright, fresh finish.
Red WineThis 2020 St Joesph shows the full character of its appellation in the attractive Courbis house style. In the glass, it is a refined wine with aromatic notes of ripe red fruits and blackcurrant characters that lead to a harmoniously balanced and fleshy palate. Hints of violet enhance the intense fruit flavours, which are supported by fine, silky tannins. This cuvée comes from various vineyard parcels across the Courbis domaine, blended to produce a wine ready for near term drinking upon release.
Saint Joseph is situated at the confluence of the Rhône and Isère rivers on the right bank of the Rhône. Domaine Courbis owns the most southern parcels of the Saint Joseph appellation, on very steep and terraced slopes, with a southern and eastern orientation. The soils comprise 30% clay and limestone, and 70% decomposed granite, which retains the heat from the day and promotes a long slow ripening period for the grapes.
Red Wine2009 is widely cited as an outstanding vintage. The growing season was almost perfect, with a long, fine, warm summer and crucially, cooler nights which helped to retain balancing acidity. The wines are intensely ripe and rich. This 2009 Chateau Puy Guilhem is a powerful yet elegant red with ripe berried fruits enhanced by a subtle note of oak spice. Full-bodied, with juicy fruit and an attractive savoury note on the finish.
The appellation of Fronsac is on the right bank close to Saint Emilion. The wines are dominated by Merlot. Château Puyguilhem’s vineyard is situated in an elevated position of the appellation, atop high-quality soil composed of a mix of clay and silt, which imparts structure to the wine. The vineyard is managed sustainably without the use of herbicides. Cover crops of grass are grown between the vines and managed with light tilling.

The grapes were harvested at optimum maturity and were fermented with natural yeast in temperature-controlled vats using organic principles. Philippe believes in highlighting terroir, and he produces his wines in an unoaked style, allowing them to reveal the purity, minerality and vitality of the soil.
In the glass, this 2019 Chablis is pure, lively and full of minerality showcasing the Goulley style. Starting with clean, pronounced greengage aromas and a steely mineral, saline character. A classic Chablis with a mouthwateringly razor sharp finish.
Domaine de L’Olivette were one of the pioneers of the Bandol appellation when it was formed in 1941. Bandol is a unique and magnificent amphitheatre between land and sea, bathed in sun all year round, stretching from the Sainte-Baume massif to the shore of the Mediterranean between Marseille and Toulon. It is an exceptional site that generations of winegrowers have shaped stone by stone, to build the famous “restanques (terraces). According to appellation law, all grapes are handpicked and yields are kept low to ensure quality over quantity.
This 2012 Bandol Rouge, Domaine de L’Olivette is distinguished by the quality of its balance and power. It is constructed around the appellation’s key grape variety, the Mourvèdre that gives it the strength, fullness and above all the typicity of Bandol. The Mourvèdre is blended with Grenache and Carignan making it a wine of rare complexity, characterised by a deep intense colour. Its aromatic palette is varied and expresses ripe red fruit, liquorice, earthiness and spice. It is full, long and persistent in the mouth supported by a great structure. The finish is long and tasty with fine silky tannins.
The wine is aged for 2 years in big barrels, then 2 more years in bottle before being released.
White WineDomaine des Deux Roches translates as ‘Estate of the Two Rocks’, a reference to the position of this wine estate between the two distinctive, rocky escarpments of Solutre and Vergisson, in the Maconnais area of southern Burgundy. Owners of the Domaine, Jean-Luc Terrier and Christian Collovray make this great Saint-Veran, a white that beats many Burgundies for sheer deliciousness.
Terres Noires is a single vineyard on the south side of the landmark rock of Solutré, where limestone soils mix with black decomposed rock. One-third of this Chardonnay is matured in oak barrels for four months and it is this careful use of oak that is key to the style. It has a lovely forward and expressive peachy fruit style. A medium oaked chardonnay with lemon and butter and a touch of honeysuckle on the nose. Soft and creamy with plenty of body and texture.

The vines are grown in the heart of the Chablis appellation, where the climate is continental. Cold winters allow the vine to rest and the sap to descend and warm summers, enable the grapes to ripen. The yields are carefully controlled to ensure the highest quality of fruit, by concentrating the flavours in the grapes. The vineyards are cultivated in the traditional manner in accordance with the appellation regulations, but also in order to respect the land and its environment and the biodiversity of the soil. The soils are predominantly Kimmeridgian, which comprise limestone and clay, from which the wines of Chablis draw their unique character, purity and minerality.
White WineIn the glass, the Organic Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits is straw yellow with white highlights. It has very intense bouquet perfumes with notes of citrus zest, green apple and toasty aromas of fresh brioche. The palate has excellent tension with concentrated fruit flavours that linger on the finish.
The Hautes Côte de Nuits vineyards run parallel to those of the Côte de Nuits but are situated at a higher altitude. This wine comes from 1.05ha of organically certified Chardonnay vines. They are 35 years old on average and are planted at a density of 3,500 vines per hectare. The vineyard is east-facing and planted on limestone soil, which gives the resulting wine great freshness and fine minerality.
