    Punta 470 takes its name from the altitude of Ca’Rugate’s six hectare estate vineyard in the hills around Montecchia di Crosara, where the grapes are grown at 470 metres above sea-level. This elevation allows the grapes to retain balancing acidity to the concentrated fruits and enables Ca’ Rugate to produce a wine which is elegant and food-friendly.

    This wine is produced from 100% Sangiovese fruit from the 1.33 hectare Poggio di Sant’Enrico Piccolo vineyard and the 3.65 hectare Poggio Sant’Enrico Grande vineyards. These are single vineyards situated at between 300 and 350 metres in elevation on Carpineto’s Chianciano Estate in Montepulciano, with southern exposures on rolling hillsides. The Piccolo vineyard was planted in 1978 and the Grande vineyard was planted in 1995.

Originally produced as a Super Tuscan in the 1980s, Coltassala now represents the pinnacle of Chianti Classico as a Gran Selezione, the appellation’s highest classification. Made from predominantly Sangiovese with a touch of Mammolo, this wine undergoes extended ageing in French oak barriques, delivering structure and refinement.

    In the glass, the 2020 Coltassala shows a vibrant ruby hue with a deeply expressive nose of wild cherry, black plum, and violet, layered with hints of sweet spice, cedar, and fine tobacco.     This fascinating vineyard is located at the top of the highest hill of the La Court estate and has an exposure of 360 degrees surface area of the vineyard.  Set within a UNESCO World Heritage Site the vineyard that the grapes for this wine came from is only 1 hectare in size and was planted in 1964 so production is very limited and only in the best years.

    2010 was one such year producing an intense and concentrated Barbera.   The nose is elegant yet complex with notes of black fruits, black cherry, wild flowers and sweet spices.  These flavours flow into the palate which is like velvet, silky and fresh.  The classic Barbera acidity is integrated and allows the cassis and black fruit flavours to shine.   The finish is long and persistent.  This wine will improve and last for many years.   Drink now to 2035.

    This is great wine for Agnolotti with a roasted meat sauce, tagliolini with porcini, braised lamb and well-matured cheeses.

    The label for this special Riserva was created by Ugo Nespolo, one of the greatest exponents of Italian Pop Art.

    Roccolo Grassi’s Amarone della Valpolicella is produced from a four-hectare, southeast facing vineyard in the heart of the DOCG, from vines with an average age of 40 years. The vines are grown at 200 to 250 metres above sea level in volcanic-basaltic soils. The vines are trained on a pergola system, at a density of 3,000 vines per hectare and yield 1.5 to 2.0 kilograms per vine. The grapes are manually harvested at the end of September into trays to preserve the quality of the fruit.

    Il Marroneto produce some of the purest and most perfumed expressions of Sangiovese made anywhere. Part of the secret lies in their prime location within Brunello’s traditional top class territory, situated at 450m above sea level with a cool northern exposure. Combined with the much lauded talents of gifted winemaker Alessandro Mori, and it’s clear to see why Il Marroneto are so highly coveted by Montalcino fans worldwide.

    Alessandro Mori has always adopted a traditional approach, aiming for elegance and purity, without sacrificing depth or impact in his wines. Organic practices have been used in the vineyards since 1988, while natural fermentation occurs and there is neither fining nor filtration before bottling.

    Both the Brunello and the Rosso start their life back at the winery as Brunellos, but during their maturation journey, Alessandro will make the decision to ‘declassify’ several bottis, resulting in a small release of Rosso di Montalcino. Prior to fermentation, the grapes spend around 2 days in steel with regular stirring followed by a slow fermentation and maceration for 3 weeks. The fruit is moved into large Slavonian and French Botti for 24 months then racked off and left to settle in steel for a brief period before bottling and release into the market.

The palate is dry, soft, well balanced with an extraordinary persistence due to its full body.  It matches with truffles, fish and poultry dishes.
