  • 2018 South Coast Pinot Noir, LismoreRed Wine

2018 South Coast Pinot Noir, Lismore

    £3800

An elegant Pinot Noir delivering a complex bouquet of crushed rose petals, wild jasmine and fresh French herbs. The palate shows beautiful purity with layered red fruits, cranberry, raspberry, silky tannins and a long, savoury finish.

This wine was made from Pinot Noir from 2 regions, 70% of the grapes came from Stanford, Walker Bay and 30% from Elgin, both in the cool climate region Cape South Coast. The vines are all Burgundian, clone 115. The Stanford vineyard is close to the southernmost tip of Africa and is located in one of South Africa’s coolest wine-producing regions. The maritime vineyard enjoys a long ripening season, because of the strong cooling winds that are prevalent in the summer. This microclimate is ideal for creating a long hang time, concentrating the flavours in the berries while retaining natural acidity levels. Elgin is situated at 400 metres above sea level and ripens even later than the coastal vineyard. The vines here, planted in shale and clay soils, produce fleshier fruit, adding weight to the blend.

  • 2018 ‘Flint Fields’ Blanc de Noirs, Simpsons Wine EstateChampagne & Sparkling Wine, English & Welsh Sparkling Wine, Sparkling

2018 ‘Flint Fields’ Blanc de Noirs, Simpsons Wine Estate

    £3995

This exceptional top-tier English Sparkling wine was created from estate-grown Pinot Noir grapes.  Burnished gold and with a delicate mousse, this wine has a luxurious, vanilla cream and fine pastry nose, with flavours of fresh Alpine strawberry, toasted brioche and a smooth elegant finish.

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43.  They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

  • Zalto Burgundy Glass Wine Republic Heros Red Wine

    Zalto Burgundy Glass

    £4000

This is a must-have glass for any serious wine drinker and without doubt our favourite glass here at Wine Republic.  It really excels with expressive, perfumed wines such as Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo but we also think it is a brilliant glass for Chardonnay and Viognier.

The Zalto Burgundy glass is the widest of all of the Zalto glasses and in turn, has the largest surface area thus allowing for rapid aeration.  The shape of the bowl is the key to making this glass world-leading, it allows those delicate flavours and aromas to be maximised. The narrow rim and straight edges hold these aromas within the glass allowing for maximum appreciation of the aromas of your chosen wine.   Over the years of using this glass, we have noticed it accentuates spice, berry and floral characteristics of the wine.

2018 Estate Grown Pinot Noir, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, Talbott

    £4250

Talbott Vineyards is defined by its iconic Sleepy Hollow Vineyard, where the conditions are ideal for exceptional, cool-climate Pinot Noir. Located in the northern area of the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA in Monterey County, it has been designated one of California’s Grand Cru vineyards by Wine Enthusiast in 2016, for its ability to produce exceptional wines year after year. The vines were first planted in 1972 at an elevation of 168 metres and cover 228 hectares. Due to the proximity of the Pacific Ocean and the east-to-northeasterly exposure, cooling fog and frequent ocean breezes temper the warm sunshine, giving Sleepy Hollow one of the longest growing seasons in California and allowing each grape to develop concentrated flavours.

This Pinot Noir offers a distinct earthiness, minerality with hints of nutmeg and clove mingling with notes of ripe black cherry, raspberry and vanilla bean to deliver a rich, mouth-filling texture through to a complex finish.
