    This deeply coloured and concentrated wine is made from 100% Alicante Bouschet, a once popular French red grape that has now found a home in the Alentejo region of Portugal.  It has a wonderful depth of dark berried fruit complemented by a characteristic eucalyptus note. Full bodied, with vibrant freshness that beautifully balances the intensity of fruit.

    The estate is situated on the Vidigueira fault, a 30 mile long east-west facing escarpment which rises to 420 metres. The fault significantly influences the climate, trapping the cool, humid Atlantic winds, so despite its southern location it is one of the most temperate sub regions in the Alentejo. These cooling and humid influences descend at night, creating diurnal temperature differences of 15°C which extend the ripening period; with the warm days concentrating the flavours in the grapes, while balancing natural acidity is retained during the cool nights.

    The Isabel Estate Sauvignon Blanc is the epitome of New Zealand’s Marlborough wine region. Benefiting from the estate’s old vines and the soils on the southwestern corner of the estate, the Isabel Sauvignon Blanc drinks beautifully young but also develops intriguing characters with age. The majority of the juice is fermented in stainless steel to retain freshness and purity, with 5% fermented in 500-litre French oak barrels to add complexity and a textural mouthfeel to the wine.  A pure tropical fruit nose of passionfruit and gooseberry gives way to nuances of blackcurrant, grapefruit and underlying flinty aromas. The palate is concentrated and enticing, coupled with the classic Isabel “Old Vine” mineral tones, making this wine refreshing and traditional in style. A creamy mid-palate and balanced acidity gives the wine weight and length, and makes it a great accompaniment to fish dishes.

    The ‘Lark’ from Olifantsberg is a top tier, Chenin Blanc and one for those obsessive seekers of the Chenin grape!  It has a clean-cut freshness and an exceptional balance of fresh stone fruit and bright citrus notes on a fleshy textured palate.     The grapes for this exceptional wine come from a 0.6-hectare vineyard located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where they endure large diurnal temperature differences and strong winds, at altitudes from 250 to 450 metres above sea level. During the winter the mountain peaks are snow-covered, keeping the vines dormant for longer. Strong, constant winds characterise this block; they have a cooling effect and encourage a slow, gradual ripening of the grapes, helping to maintain healthy vines and contribute freshness and elegance to the wines. The soil in the vineyard is made up of sandstone with clay-shale and quartz. The vineyard is farmed in a sustainable manner, with only ‘green’ products used to prevent disease, thus helping to maintain the biodiversity within the vineyards and soils.

    The lark is found in many biomes in South Africa, each with distinct call and features depending on the biome. This wine is named after the Red Capped Lark which is found on the Olifantsberg farm. The lark resonates with this block of Chenin Blanc, as it too has its own expression and story to tell.
