    BinD674 otherwise known as the 2017 HRB Riesling is made from fruit sourced from the Clare Valley and Tasmania. Brilliant water like colour with a slight tinge of green around the outskirts. Elevated lime juice and orange rind aromas interplay with citrusy talc like characters, green apple and steely mineral notes. Unfolding across the palate are intense lime and citrus flavours backed by a steely mineral infused core. Subtle orange rind and crunchy green apple elements are also apparent.     The fruit comes from the estate ‘Grava’ vineyard, which is one of the most northerly plantings in Monterey County. It nestles up to the Gabilan Mountain Range on the eastern side of the Salinas Valley; approximately 10 miles directly across from the Santa Lucia Highlands. The marine influence of the nearby Monterey Bay and the morning fog which clears for the afternoon sun, results in a cool mesoclimate and a long hang-time for the fruit. The grapes reflect the cool climate character, with complex aromatics and flavours and natural balancing acidity. The vineyard is cultivated sustainably and are certified by the California Sustainable Wine Growing Alliance.

    Zorzal is an Argentinian boutique winery that is located at the highest point of the Uco Valley. Hailed as one of the most exclusive and well-regarded areas for viticulture in Argentina, the terroir is revealed in the Zorzal wines through a respectful, non-invasive winemaking process that puts austerity before exuberance and fruit before wood.

    A fine example of Cabernet Franc, this wine shows extraordinary aromatic purity, expressing white pepper, green pepper and spicy notes highlighted by mineral overtones. The juicy fruit on the palate is textured and leads to a long, satisfying finish

    The grapes are grown in a specifically limey patch of a plot in a drip-irrigated single vineyard in Tupungato, Gualtallary. Gualtallary is situated at 1,350 metres above sea level in the highest vine growing zone at the foot of Tupungato volcano, one of the highest peaks in the Andes. This zone is characterised by its combination of altitude, alluvial soils, sunny days, low rainfall and wide temperature ranges. The diurnal temperatures here oscillate between 35°C and 17°C, creating long, slow ripening periods, concentrating the flavours in the fruit with balancing acidity.

    The high acid, bold flavoured Campanian grape Fiano has really found it’s second home in Australia, especially in Heathcote where it regularly outshines the red grapes on the same site in a traditional red-wine growing region. Chalmers have a museum of Fiano wines dating back over a decade with even the older wines still singing. The 2012 Chalmers Fiano is no exception, melding delicate stone fruits and almond blossom with savoury lees contact characters and minerality, displaying texture and power in the mouth whilst retaining a fine, fresh finish.

    Chalmers Fiano is whole bunch pressed and fermented on solids, 10% in old French oak barriques, 90% in stainless steel tanks without yeast addition. The temperature of fermentation is limited to 15 degrees. After fermentation is finished the wine rests on lees in tank for 6 – 9 months before being bottled.  The Fiano is then aged in bottle for a further 24 months before release allowing the wine to develop in richness and texture.

    The indigenous variety of Thrapshathiri (pronounced Thrap-sah-THEE-ree) is grown in the Dafnes region, in vineyards located at an altitude of 400 to 500 metres above sea level. At this elevation, the cool Aegean summer breezes refresh the vines during the summer, when temperatures can reach 35°C. The cooler nights can drop to 15°C and this diurnal temperature difference retains natural acidity in the grapes, balancing this rich and intensely aromatic variety.

    The area of Lussac is an up and coming satellite appellation of the renowned Saint Emilion region on the the Right Bank of Bordeaux. There is no doubt that one of Lussac’s most prized properties is Château Lucas, owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone fame. From just 18 hectares of vines, three cuvée are produced. The top wine, aptly called Château Lucas, is produced from a 12-hectare vineyard, comprising equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Franc. While so much of the Right Bank focuses on Merlot, the high percentage of Cabernet Franc brings a polished lift to the cuvée, vintage in and vintage out.

    In the glass it opens with aromatics of raspberry and blackcurrant interlaced with plum and vanilla notes.  The palate is round and balanced with flavours of earthy spices, tobacco and blackcurrants that lead into a sustained finish.
