An elegant Pinot Grigio showing floral notes with characteristic hints of citrus fruits. On the palate, it is well balanced with delicate savoury notes enveloped in a silky texture and delivers a long, elegant finish.

The grapes are grown in the San Floriano del Collio, Gorizia, Cormòns and Mossa territories in DOC Collio. The soils on the hilly region are known as ‘Ponca’, which rich in sandstone with alternating layers of marl, which produces aromatic wines. The soils offer a good balance of water retention to nourish the vines throughout the summer and ample drainage if required. Gentle sea breezes come from the Adriatic Sea which keep the vines dry and healthy, while the Alps protect the vineyards from cold, northerly winds. Warm days and cool nights offer the perfect combination to allow slow maturation of the grapes, maintaining beautiful balance between natural acidity and sugar levels.

The vines are grown at high altitude in Cafayate, situated at 1,700 metres above sea level surrounded by the Andes Mountains. Cafayate is one of the highest regions in the world suitable for viticulture and this high altitude is what defines the terroir of the region. The vines are exposed to intense sunlight which results in the grapes forming thicker and darker skins to protect themselves from the ultraviolet rays; leading to more colour and flavour concentration in the grapes. The diurnal temperature difference results in an extended ripening season, producing concentrated grapes bursting with flavour but with a balanced structure.

Simpsons Wine Estate is situated in the Elham Valley; an unspoilt seam in the North Downs of Kent where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil are excellent for viticulture. The intensely lime-rich chalk soil forms part of the same chalk ridge that stretches from southern England through Champagne and on to Burgundy. The grapes come from the Roman Road vineyard, named after the route the Romans first marched when invading England in AD 43. They are grown on south-facing slopes, ensuring heat accumulation in the day and cold air drainage at night. The vineyard is less than eight miles from the coast, providing a crucial maritime influence insulating the fruit against intense temperature variations.

Bright notes of cherry, wild strawberry fruit and ripe raspberry are interlaced by hints of spice and earthy notes. This wine is made in a pure fruit-driven style, with supple tannins and reveals a fresh and elegant expression of Pinotage.

The vineyard is located on the fertile slopes of the Olifantsberg Mountain Range where it endures wide diurnal temperature differences and strong winds, at altitudes from 250 to 450 metres above sea level. During the winter the mountain peaks are snow-covered, keeping the vines dormant for longer. Cold winters, coupled with the summer winds, ensures the slow ripening of the grapes; helps to maintain healthy vines; and contributes freshness and elegance to the wines. The soils in the vineyard comprise a unique sandy shale with a clay subsoil, which lends structure to the resulting wine. The Pinotage trellised vines are 11 years old and are farmed in a sustainable manner.
