This cracking cool climate Chardonnay by cult Mornington Peninsula winery, Ten Minutes by Tractor, opens with floral, white flower and lime citrus notes that lift from the glass, an enticing entree to lovely sweet citrus fruit on the front palate and a burst of white peach and nectarine. This wine has great concentration and a fine long mineral and textured finish.

2022 Saint-Véran, Domaine Ferrand

Saint Véran is an appellation for dry white wines made from Chardonnay, which is situated in the southern half of the Mâconnais subregion of Burgundy. The Domaine Ferrand vineyard is situated in the village of Solutré Pouilly, on eastern and southeastern facing sunny slopes at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres above sea level. The vines have an average age of 50 years, with deep root systems penetrating the layers of soil, imparting complexity to the resulting wine.

2021 Bishop Shiraz, Glaetzer

Made from exceptional old vine fruit was sourced from the famed Ebenezer sub district at the northern tip of the Barossa Valley. These old vines are between 35-120 years old.
In the glass there is an explosion of brooding dark tones with bright cassis and coffee bean hints. The palate has a subtle richness with flavours of dark plum and blackberry intermingled with dark chocolate and dried spice. Generous yet restrained tannin provides exceptional palate length and persistence.
Peak Drinking: Great drinking now but this wine will also benefit from up to 10 – 15 years of careful cellaring.
Bishop is the family name of Colin’s wife’ Judith. Fittingly the sign of Venus, a symbol which has come to represent women and feminine energy, is the centrepiece of the Bishop label. In mythology, the symbol meant the Roman goddess Venus or her Greek equivalent Aphrodite. But the sign has also been linked back to ancient Egypt – a nod to Bishop’s link to Amon-Ra and Anaperenna.

2013 Estate Riesling, Two Paddocks

This Estate Riesling from the 2013 vintage is estate-grown at Earnscleugh, near Alexandra, in the Red Bank Vineyard and is a brilliant wine that will excel with food. Aromas of sweet mandarin, lemon & lime flower and minerals drift from the glass. On the palate, it is dry with vibrant flavours of lime and lemon, crisp green apple and thyme laced elderflower that build across the palate to a long dry finish.

2021 Chardonnay, Lismore

It’s here with the Sonderend mountains as a backdrop that winemaker & proprietor Samantha O’Keefe makes her fabulous wines. ‘ I had a farm in Africa….’ The opening line of Karen Blixen’s classic memoir Out Of Africa comes to mind when you hear Samantha’s amazing story. A native Californian, Berkeley educated, Sam realised her dream and bought a mountain in Africa.
In December 2019 Samantha’s farm, home, cellar and just-opened wine cellar was all lost in a bush-fire. Samantha has proven herself to be one of the winemaking stars of South Africa and gaining respect from all around the world. The day this tragedy took place Samantha was receiving calls from winemakers all around the Cape, giving her some of their top grapes and asking her to make the wine in their cellars in order for her to continue making wine and not miss a harvest. A remarkable woman making remarkable wines.
The 2020 Lismore Chardonnay is delicious in the glass. The nose is a complex, expressive bouquet of citrus and tropical fruits layered with brioche, honey and walnut. The palate is carried through by a distinct minerality and crisp acidity through to a lingering citrus finish.

Giugi Sesti grew up in Venice and much of his life has been dedicated to the study of astronomy, on which subject he is a published author. For thirty years Giugi organised an opera festival in Tuscany, whilst refurbishing the hamlet of the Castello di Argiano and its 102 hectares. Now primarily run by his daughter Elisa, the winery Sesti makes a world renowned Brunello but if you want the Sesti experience without waiting for the Brunello’s to mature then this Rosso is exceptional.
Crafted using organic and biodynamic wine making principles, this 100% Sangiovese is a delicious expression of Rosso di Montalcino. In the glass it opens with aromas of rosemary, red summer berries and dark chocolate that lead into palate of gorgeous bright red fruit, touches of oak and tobacco, with savoury notes of mushroom.

2021 ‘Vallado’ Touriga Nacional, Quinta do Vallado

Touriga vines produce small, intense berries that, as in this 2021 Vallado, give a wine displaying richly concentrated flavours of ripe red fruits layered with balsamic notes of oak and hints of violet. The palate is beautifully balanced with ripe, rounded tannins and a long, fresh finish.
The grapes for this wine come from a certified organic vineyard. The vines are planted at altitudes ranging between 80 and 400 metres on south and west-facing slopes, which maximise exposure to the sun, assisting the grapes’ ripening potential. The landscape is characterised by the terraces that make up the vineyards. The soils are made up of schist, a slate-like metamorphic rock which is rich in nutrients and also offers useful water retention properties.

Cassis, blackberry and cherry on the nose with hints of white pepper, ground herbs and the strong floral perfume of crushed violets. Light and elegant, but structured with fresh acidity.
The Syrah is made from 50% Greyton fruit planted in heavy schist (decomposed shale) soils with no irrigation; and 50% Elgin fruit grown in sandstone and shales soils. Two of the coolest climates in South Africa with extreme diurnal temperature shifts which promote complexity, depth and concentration and presents a Syrah that has a very distinct sense of place.

2022 Sancerre ‘Les Poitevinnes’, Domaine Serge Laloue
£3300Add to BasketSerge Laloue has always been one of our favourite winemakers in the Loire, making incredible Sancerre. His ‘Les Poitevinnes’ Cuvee is an elegant and complex expression of Sancerre, with concentrated Mirabelle plum and peach underpinned by delicate hints of liquorice, anise and mineral notes. The lovely rounded texture on the palate is beautifully framed by mineral freshness.
The grapes are grown in 0.55 hectares of vineyard within the estate, from vines with an average age of 30 to 35 years. The vines face a south-easterly orientation, maximising exposure to the sun to assist the ripening of the berries. The soils are predominantly calcareous clay, which typically has a high limestone content, producing elegant and textured wines with distinctive minerality. The vineyard is currently in conversion to organic status, a natural progression for the Laloue family as the farming methods used over many years have followed these principles. Vineyard management techniques include ploughing the soil instead of using herbicides, growing cover crops between the rows of vines and sexual confusion of predators, to maintain the health of the vines and the biodiversity of the environment.

2019 Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon, Leeu Passant
£3300Add to BasketThis aromatic Cabernet shows notes of cassis, tarragon, graphite and cedar on the nose. These continue on the palate which has a silky texture and great structure from the fine tannins. The richness and power of the wine are balanced by freshness and finesse. The finish is dry with lingering blackcurrant and blueberry flavours.
Grapes for this wine is a blend of parcels from the cooler parts of Stellenbosch. One parcel is from 39-year-old, dry-farmed bush vine Cabernet Sauvignon, planted on deep alluvial soils of Firgrove. A further two parcels are planted on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, while the final parcel is sourced from the Polkadraai Hills, where the soils are decomposed granite.

This 2020 Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc is magnificently textured and one of our favourite Chenins tried this year.
In the glass, it has an inviting luminosity, somewhat steely and mineral, with a lemongrass pungency. Mellow notes of baked lemon, citrus blossom, and fresh thyme reins you in. A few moments of swirling in the glass give up a display of aromas: granny smith apples, apricots and greengage. The palate is perky with a note of old-fashioned lemon drop candy. Ripe lemon and greengage indicate youth with a crackling acidity that suits its ebullient nature, trailed with hints of thyme and oregano. The salty acidity really gives this wine something rather special.
